POTTER'S MEN CONTINUE GOOD RUN
1 May 2004
St George Illawarras Premier League side have continued their great form, defeating the Cronulla Sharks 32-16 at Toyota Park tonight to remain in the top two.
The Dragons were at their potent best in patches, scoring six tries to three in an inspiring display.
Ben Creagh continued to press for NRL inclusion with two tries while centre partner David Howell was also impressive.
The Dragons led 28-0 at halftime following Creaghs double and tries to Lee Bennett, Aaron Wheatley and Howell.
With the match sewn up they lifted the foot off the pedal in the second stanza but still did more then enough to get the points.
We got out of the blocks good today but then we probably let ourselves down a bit by giving away silly penalties and the Sharks got a bit of ball and showed they can play good footy, Dragons coach Mick Potter said.
As is custom in local derbies, the match was rather tense at stages.
There was a bit of close contact and spice thats for sure, Potter said.
Potter was happy to praise the side, particularly his centres.
I think the team deserve a wrap because theyre improving every week, Potter said.
Theyre working on their individual skill and their skills as a team and thats great.
Benny Creagh and David Howell are going really well for us and its a good thing for the team to have really solid centres because it really lifts the team when they come up with a big hit or a good break and those two do it for us regularly.
Premier League heads to Brookvale next Sunday to take on Manly.
