We still have a lot of work to do, Marum says

THE Hunters will shift into top gear over the next two weeks before their first trial match against the Northern Pride at Barlow Park, Cairns on February 9 in Cairns. The Hunters returned to pre-season training at the Bomana Police College in Port Moresby on Friday are under a heavy training regime to get back on track.
Hunters coach Michael Marum (pictured) said there were not too many issues with the players when they returned from the break.
Its a good sign of their commitment to be part of this team and the cause, he said.
The first two weeks back now we will concentrate mainly on fitness, tackling and throwing skills plus ironing out the combinations that we have already worked out, he added.
But yes we still have a lot of work to do on roles and which position the players will take on, he said.
Marum said a majority of the players have come under the Kumul Warrior programme throughout the Kumul training camps last year, and have become basically smarter to the roles that are expected of them.
Spots are up for grabs for the starting 17 and (the) positive thing about the situation is that everybody is working hard to earn a spot, Marum added.
The two trial matches will allow us to use all players and that will sort that out and measure themselves on how they stand up this level of competition, he said.
He said they have two trial matches with the second one against the Central Queensland Capras on February 15 at the Browne Park in Rockhampton.
South Pacific Brewery are the Papua New Guinea Hunters major sponsor with a multi-million kina package announced last month.
The Hunters will be based out of Kokopo in East New Britain and will use Kalabond as to host home games.
