Wynnum v Redcliffe couldn't get 10,000. That would have been considered the ultimate GF for a big crowd. Anything over 6,000 is a plus in most cases.

Wynnum v Easts would give 10k a shake.

In 95 those two teams got around 16-17k.

It seems only since the advent of the QLD Cup, crowds for GF's have consistently dropped below 10k. Dolphin Oval was the last time we saw a 10k plus GF crowd.

Live telecasts have been a big factor in crowds dropping off in the last twenty years. The fan bases of most clubs haven't got any bigger in that time either.

The Brisbane Rugby Union GF is on tomorrow between Easts ( Minor Premiers) and Souths (Tim Horan's old team who finished 4th).

Radio commentators were talking a ten thousand crowd. Which i personally think is a bit optimistic.

However, if the weekly televised arguably 3rd best standard RL comp in the world gets a lesser crowd than whatever they get .... we need to do some serious marketing and promotion of the comp and code.

Do think the 'lost middle ground' between suburban ground and Suncorp Stadium is a thorn in the side for all the rectangular field orientated sports. At least RU can fall back to Ballymore for their 'big games'.

Apparently the union GF got 8500 in attendance?????!!!!??????

Must have been 8499 free tickets, or juniors from curtain raisers etc - but bugger me thats a good attendance
