Queensland Cup 2005 - No Diehards...

DIEHARD

The Board of the Queensland Rugby League (QRL) has today determined that the 2005 Queensland Cup season will be contested by the following 11 clubs:

Burleigh Bears
Central Comets
Easts Tigers
Ipswich Jets
North Qld Young Guns
Norths Devils
Redcliffe Dolphins
Souths Logan Magpies
Toowoomba Clydesdales
Tweed Heads Seagulls
Wynnum Seagulls

Eight of the 11 clubs listed remain from the competition’s inauguration in 1996, with Burleigh carrying an unbroken record since being admitted in 1997.

From the 2004 season, the only club not participating in 2005 will be Brothers Diehards.

While the QRL acknowledges the rich history associated with the organisation, the club’s inability to meet specified guidelines has resulted in this situation.

Avenues remain open for the club to apply to be part of lower grade competitions in the South East Division.

A draft draw for the Queensland Cup will be released in coming weeks, following which the participating clubs will be consulted.

This is frustrating for those who fought so hard to get them back in the comp.

Brothers Valleys were a Dragons feeder club and it looked like a positive relationship for two seasons (2002 & 2003) as Saints reserve graders played trials against B-V at Perry Park in Brisbane.

It was a great way to give new players a run. The first match Brent Kite played for Saints was at Perry Park.

Unfortunately, Brothers Valleys were not able to submit a satisfactory application for next year. Apparently the QRL put forward 7 key points which needed to be addressed. It's understood the B-V board were only able to address 2 of those key points.

There was a spill on the club board last August which saw some board members, including the president, leaving. The new look board took over and what followed was a dramatic collapse.

Next Sunday, the Brothers Valleys people are having their AGM. This is sure to be a hostile meeting and sparks will fly.

It's hope that the club can sort out their financial and management problems and the Diehards are back in 2006.

Eleven clubs have also been admitted to Mixwell comps:

Norths, Souths-Logan, Easts, Wests, Redcliffe, Wynnum, Hills District, Ipswich, Runaway Bay, Burleigh, Tugun

Brothers Diehards have been given to Tues Nov 30 to comply with requirements for entry to that comp, if they wish to pursue this following failure to get into Qld Cup.

There's a new president as a result of the AGM last Sunday but they still have a lot of work to do.

Was the last president/CEO an idiot?

What the hell is wrong with this club?!?

Hell they killed it...

They should be lined up and shot!
