The racing community is in mourning following the death of jockey Nathan Berry, aged 23.
He passed away on Thursday after collapsing at trackwork in Singapore on March 18.
He suffered a series of seizures before he was placed in an induced coma last week. Doctors diagnosed Berry with Norse syndrome, an acute form of epilepsy.

Really tragic news, I can't believe how fast it all happened. He was a talented young guy. Rest in peace Nathan.

Shocked!! Can't believe it, only 23. Far far too young. Talented going jockey who was only just starting to get the rides his talent deserved.

The Australian racing community is in mourning after the tragic passing of Sydney jockey Nathan Berry.

Berry, 23, lost his battle for life in a Sydney hospital on Thursday.

Berry is the older twin brother of fellow jockey Tommy and son of Warwick Farm trainer Kevin Berry. He recently married Whitney Schofield, the daughter of another Sydney rider Glyn Schofield and sister to Chad Schofield.

He was rushed to hospital in Singapore more than two weeks after collapsing during trackwork at the Kranji racetrack on March 18.

He was diagnosed with viral encephalitis but sadly his condition worsened and he was placed into an induced coma when doctors amended the diagnosis to Norse syndrome, an acute form of epilepsy.

His condition failed to improve and he was brought home by the family on Wednesday.

Berry rode more than 350 winners in his short career and in January he tasted his greatest success in the saddle when winning the Magic Millions 2YO Classic aboard Unencumbered for Bjorn Baker.

Rest in Peace mate.

Absolutely tragic news to hear this.

I was lucky enough to meet both the Berry boys at a function about 18months ago (through mutual friends) It actually had nothing to do with racing and the majority of the guests had no idea who they were.

I got to socialise with them for a few hours and we talked racing, footy and just general life stuff and I can honestly say they were both just down to earth top blokes with their heads really screwed on.

I remember leaving the party thinking they were both destined to do great things for the industry and any honours they recieved would be richly deserved.
