Match of the round is first up, Raiders v Sea Eagles. Rapana is back. It'll be surprising if Canberra lose this one.

There's some desperate-looking Sydney teams right now, beginning with Penrith. Halves Cleary and Martin look to have 'second-year blues', if that's such a thing, but they're both playing poorly regardless.

If the Rabbitohs want to be a side that's seen to threaten the top sides this year then they need to begin tonight, by beating Brisbane.

Hayne at 18th man for the Titans but, despite that circus, it'd be great for the comp if the GC could upset the premiers. The 2017 season is starting to see a gulf between the top five or six and the rest.

Penrith are missing Mansour something terrible. He gets their sets going and is slippery as an eel. I remember the game last year against us. Everytime he touched the ball he gave our team fits. Not sure when he comes back but watch them start winning in games in a row when he is fully fit.

Yeah... big loss, even more so with their forwards underperforming to a shocking degree. I'd lay the blame at the feet of guys like Tamou and Merrin before the halves.

Why doesn't every half kick touchfinders like Blake Austin. He gets 40 metres each time. They are free metres why not take them? Real pet peeve of mine when people kick touchfinders for 10 metres.

Shit I hate golden point !! Will take the 2 pts though

Taupau was enormous and Fonua-Blake not far behind him

Beat Cowboys, Roosters and Raiders away but can't win at home, frustrating

f**k, we can't buy a correct call for a strip or correct play the ball.
Broncos get awarded a try when Milfords arm (not ball) comes in contact with the ground in goal (tackle complete), then ball comes out and Thiaday gets a try!

Oh you know that if that was the Warriors Milford gets called for a knock on!

Most likely, but then we wouldn't be able to pot the shot, so it wouldn't matter anyway.

Canberra don't look the same side with Leilua off the field.

For the neutrals tonight was a blast.

Refs escorted off the field, and they weren't even playing the Bulldogs.

Bunnies look also rans now.

Penrith now two from eight. That's Gus getting menacing in the backrooms.

Good points about them missing Mansour but, still, they look a different side to last year. They have a few weeks from having the Warriors potentially play them back into form too, but they might be too far gone by that stage.

The way the eight looks at the moment, I know it's round 8 but it's looking for all money like that'll be the make-up come September. Most vulnerable would be the Cows, given no Scott and JT now injured/soon to be on Origin duty, and maybe the Sea Eagles if they suffered injuries to key players - although gee aren't they a complete transformation from last year?

The gulf in class from teams 1-8 to the rest already looks reasonably marked.

What a long, long round. Especially when waiting for the big one tonight.

Some godawful jerseys too, how many little red rabbits did Souths try to fit onto theirs? I get the concept, it's like poppys on a green field.

The Dogs had a red poppy lei around their waists, leis around your necks are better known, like the dragons are doing right now, Aloha From Hawaii-style.

Thank god Scurrah's no longer with us. He'd top all that.

Seriously, let's see if the Dragons are worthy comp leaders today,

For any betting people out there...

I'm not much a gambler but I was looking at premiership odds today on NRL.com and would appreciate some input on my logic (or lack thereof).

To win the comp:
Melbourne paying 3.75
Broncos 7.00
Canberra 7.50
Sharks 9.00
Roosters 9.00

If you put $100 on each of the Broncs, Canberra, Sharks and Roosters - and one of them won, then you would make $300 (if broncs won) and up to $500 if sharks or roosters won.
A loss of $400 if Melbourne won obviously, of if another team not in the list won.

I can't see any team outside of that list winning. And if that is the case, then essentially the bet I laid out is like getting odds of $3 to bet against Melbourne winning the comp. Sportsbet are more or less saying that Melbourne have a 66% chance of winning the comp.

Seems like a good bet to me. Thoughts?

(edit: something is definitely awry with my maths lol)
