WA Reds Roll Storm
The Cash Converters WA Reds ran over the top of Melbourne Storm 34 to 24 to have their first win from two starts in a just reward for their long pre season, setting them up well for their first away game next week.
After scoring first for the game, the Reds had to settle for a 12 all half time score line as they were unable to convert their three tries. Melbourne’s kicker Adam Millgate made the most of his chances in front of goal and went on to convert all four attempts for the game.
While the Reds played with good purpose and seemed to have more of the play, it was the lapses in defense that allowed easy tries in for the Storm.
The local crowd of 310 was again passionate, but nervous at half time. The game was played in four quarters because of the excessive heat, and the crowd was hopeful the local conditions would suit the Reds at the end.
Both sides came out in the second half and attacked with purpose to have their chances in the first ten minutes, but it was the Storm who got on the board first.
Eddie Proudler responded quickly showing some speed and good stepping to break through for the Reds. The game became an arm wrestle and it was Melbourne again who went 6 points up with 14 minutes left in the game.
Confusion with ten minutes to go went the way of the Reds when the sixth and seventh send off for the game left Melbourne to play with just 11 on the field. It would have been disappointing for the Storm but an advantage the Reds had to take advantage of.
Dylan Rintoul scored in the corner for his second of the day to get within 2 points, and when Tom Fry forced his way over to give the lead to the Reds it was matter of hanging on for the win.
They did more than that, when man of the match Louie David stole the ball at 50 metres and ran the ball under the posts to seal the game.
Other good players included Proudler, Nathan Wall and first gamer Mikey Gray. Jake Collins scored 10 points with a try and 3 goals.
Coach Andrew Korn was relieved and happy at the end of the game.
“We did not take full advantage of the sin bin opportunities and made it hard for ourselves, but it was good the way the boys came up at the end”
“After the loss last week we bounced back well and we can now take that belief in ourselves forward. We are not just here to make up the numbers”.
The WA Reds play away Western Suburbs next week at Campbelltown Stadium.

Yeah, those grey pants have to go.

The shorts should be the same colour as the dominant colour of the jersey.

was scorching hot and I think everyone, including the ref, was getting a bit hot under the collar! Mostly mouthing off from the Storm lads towards the ref or touchies when decisions went against them.

Congrats to WA on the win.
I found it interesting to note that Jaline Graham is in the Reds squad. Jaline played SG Ball with the Bulldogs last season and in 2009 was halfback in the Bulldogs premiership winning Harold Matthews team.
I coached Jaline in 2008 in the Canterbury district and at the time he was a gifted ball player, elusive runner and strong defender who starred in a range of positions despite playing up an age group.
Don't know why the Bulldogs would have released him though you should get good value out of him this season!
