REDS GO FOR TWO IN A ROW
With a good win last week, the WA Reds are looking to make it consecutive wins as they come up against bottom placed Southern Sydney Sharks at Cronulla on Saturday.
While the Sharks have only had two wins for the season, they have performed better than what their standing shows.
Similar to some of the games played by the Reds they have given up too many easy balls to see their good work undone, so it will be up to the players on the field for the Reds to exploit them and get the upper hand early.
Coach Chris Dever sees the game as a bit of a danger and one he does not want his team to take lightly.
“The Sharks have shown some good form at times this season while they do have a tendency to give the ball away. It will be up to us to keep the pressure on and force the errors.”
“We will again focus on running our full sets at all times and limit the errors from our side. If we maintain the game plan, the scoring opportunities will happen. It is important for us to win the game and start building a culture for 2009.”
This week sees the return of Jason Godecke and Craig Phillis who were unavailable last week, but an ankle injury sustained by Captain Shayne McMenemy in the Quad Series will see him out for this week at least.
Tyrone Coppedge is still a week away from full fitness.
The side is quite well balanced with some good strength coming off the bench. The move of Taurean Sheehan into lock and Jon Phipps back to second row looks a good combination.
They will be backed up by James McGowan who was also impressive in second row last week.
Mick Kestel had an outstanding game last week at full back and will make a telling contribution along with hooker Isaac Thomas.
It would be good for the team to build a winning momentum for the home game against the Marlins the following week.
Game Kick Off WA Reds V Southern Sydney Sharks 3.00pm (EST)
