I'll start off by saying how please I am for Chris Lawrence on not just being picked for City this weekend but for his appointment as captain.

OK so there were plenty of players unavailable but 'someone' must have seen 'something' in Kyle Lovett as he alongside Curtis Sironen and David Nofoaluma have also been selected.

Simona and Sue picked in the Samoan team so congrats all round.

ISP NSW Residents Defeat Queensland

The Intrust Super Premiership NSW Residents side defeated Queensland 30-16 after an explosive second-half performance that blew their opposition away.

Josh Drinkwater earned Channel 9 man of the match honours with a sublime performance at halfback, while Justin Hunt was incredible at the back.

The Blues got out to a dream start, with the opening kick-off of the match being knocked on by Queensland.

Another early Queensland error allowed the NSW boys to build pressure, forcing their opposition to continually defend.

Ken Maumalo then opened the scoring for the Blues after he finished off a picture perfect right-to-left shift that was simply beautiful to watch.

Abraham Papalii went close soon after, charging towards the line and going over, but the video referee supported the decision that he was held up.

Elijah Taylor put his stamp on the match when he recieved a great offload to make a line-break, and his quick play the ball caused an automatic overlap as the ball shifted to Maumalo's wing once more for the big winger to get the ball down.

As both conversions were missed, Queenslands next try to Jahrome Hughes got the deficit back to 8-6.

The Blues immediatly hit back when Asipeli Fine crashed over, before a late Queensland try meant that New South Wales went into half-time leading 14-10.

A Wests Tigers cominbation came in handy to start the second half, with Hunt bursting through the line, drawing the fullback and passing the ball to Drinkwater who was lingering in support.

Maumalo recorded his hat-trick just moments later, despite the video referee taking a long time to confirm the put-down was correct.

Jordan Drew believed he had a try shortly afterwoods, but he was ever so slightly in front of the kicker and was ruled offside.

After another missed chance, the try of the afternoon came through interchange forward Dylan Kelly, who burned defenders to run the length of the field and put down the match-sealing try.

Queensland scored a late consolation try, but it was all New South Wales at Langlands Park, with the Blues flying home with the shield.

To bad for drinkwater he has Johns & Langer in front of him in our NRL team @ the Tigers !!

Drinkwater's form in state cup & the crap brooks has been dishing out this season & last (with the exception of the last match where souffs didn't turn up ) have warranted drinkwater get a promotion.

Unfortunately @ this weak club no accountability has ever been imposed on our substandard NRL team !

Just jumped back on here to say that the City Country game today just might be the making of, with for it,

Kyle Lovett.

The kid did well, let no one down, tackled very well, ran hard and being around some different players and coach may just see him step up a level.

Lovett has an innately great work ethic in contrast to the lazy apathetic sironen. If we had an entire team with Lovett's & Lawrence's attitudes & work ethics we'd be playing in September.

Lovett was sensational for city, I couldn't believe it was the same guy who plays for us every week. Lawrence was typically tough and professional, unlucky to have 2 line breaks taken off him due to forward passes. Didn't notice Siro much, so he carried his NRL form

All our guys (including Taylor) looked a cut above in the ISC game. Well done to all 4 guys. Taylor will walk into our pack.

Thought Sue was solid for Samoa while Simona had an average night, he dropped a bomb and struggled to get involved at fullback. Guys a center/winger.

Re the City Country game, I assume that all the Tiger fans agree that Sironen, rightly or wrongly is the preferred 2nd rower out of he and Lovett, is that correct?

Interesting that Fittler as City coach gave Lovett much more game time, why I wonder ;-)
The player ratings from the Tele today was interesting.

Kyle Lovett:
Under-rated forward who picked up a try. 6.5

Curtis Sironen:
Limited chances but definitely won't be his last rep game. 5

Limited chances, you get out there and get involved and take your chances in these games don't you?
