What the difference between a bank account number and a bank number?

I need this to wire money to another account.

do you mean account and BSB? if so the account number is the number of the individual account. The BSB is the branch number of the bank.

might be an idea to ask the bank anyway so you dont wire a sh*tlaod of money into some lucky bastards account in finland

A bank number will be your BSB or Bank State Branch number..that is what they want along with your acct no.

as it turned out the 'bank number' (yeh your right they meant BSB) wasn't needed. A SWIFT number and account number was enough
