If you haven't seen todays issue of the monthly newspaper Rugby League Review, it has Phil Bailey on the cover. Inside there is a short article again suggesting Bailey will be around for 2004. However it does suggest he will shop around for the following season.

Anyway, it was good to see one of our guys on the front of this fine publication.

Ali , Wasn't Rogers trying to get him to sign a contract for an extra 2 years? Must mean he's just seeing out his contract for this year and try and have a belter of a season in 2004 and then go to auction. Or........he is worried about the Sharks finances byond 2004 because of a certain legal issue due to go before the courts............................ :(

Isn't the nrl going to increase the salary cap for 2005? If so he would be mad not to wait and see whats on offer rather then tie himself up in a long term contract (providing he's still playing good footie).

It could be seen as a shrewd move from both parties.

From Bailey's side, for the planned salary cap increase for 2005, as already mentioned. Also to see what happens with his old mentor Ando in terms of a coaching role then. If Anderson gets another NRL gig in 2005, it might give him some financial leverage as I assume that Bailey would be one of the players he would target.

From Cronulla's side, Bailey scored a representative jumper but was far from a standout. They may be more interested in being conservative and seeing how he goes this season under a different coach.

Either way, it's good to see that he will be in the Sharks' colours next year and I hope that he continues to improve. Show the likes of Goose Gould that he does have legitimate representative credentials.

He also probably wants to see what Stuart Raper is all about for 1 season. If he didn't think he was coach he wanted to play under it would be a long three years..............
