Eels at a crossroads amid Arthur flinching fears; Roosters left with huge calls — Jimmy Brings

The Parramatta Eels are at a crossroads leading into Friday’s clash against Manly at Four Pines Park aka the old Brookvale Oval.

After being barbecued in the tropics in a complete second half capitulation against the Dolphins the Eels desperately need to find a pulse.

Sure they’re missing chief playmaker Mitchell Moses but given Penrith have been winning without Nathan Cleary and the Broncos are the same without Adam Reynolds it’s an easy cop out to simply blame the absence of the champion no.7.

Brad Arthur is a damn good coach but the fact remains the bankers who are calling the shots at Parramatta must be getting jittery given the performances against the Raiders and Dolphins.

All the while one of the greatest coaches rugby league has known remains off contract for next season in supercoach Wayne Bennett.

We’re not suggesting Arthur only has 80 minutes to save his job ala Jason Demetriou at Souths a fortnight ago but there’s a feeling the Parramatta power brokers may flinch given the blowtorch currently being applied by the club’s legion of fans.
Arthur is a good coach and a good man but the question remains after 11 seasons, five finals series, one grand final and no premierships: is he still the right coach to lead the Eels?

Because with South Sydney also in freefall, anchored to the bottom of the NRL ladder and with co-owner Russell Crowe now back in Australia there’s every chance Bennett might not be available until October

The Bunnies have got a board meeting next Tuesday and the club was clearly making moves to part ways with Demetriou a fortnight ago.

The plan was to parachute Mal Meninga in as caretaker coach for the remainder of the season and the tip beyond that was they intended to chase Bennett.

The Meninga play has since been torpedoed yet Souths have still only won one game out of six to start the season.

They also travel to Melbourne on Anzac Day to confront one of the NRL’s most daunting road trips where the Bunnies are on an 18-match losing streak.

Yep, South Sydney has never won a game in Melbourne since the Storm entered the competition in 1998.

Bennett has gone on record multiple times stating how he’ll continue coaching beyond this season with the Dolphins.

Does it come down to which club out of Parramatta and South Sydney makes the first move?

Toruva looks to have signed with the Tigers 450-500k. Panthers offered him $350.
Surely we could have offered similar? Only 21 and quite a winger!

mate, when you have Dunster, Harper , lazy Sousan sorry lazy Sivo, Superman on your books and all future immortals, why would we look at talented players.

I have an overwhelming feeling that Bennett has zero interest whatsoever in coming to our club.

he’ll end up at the rabbitohs, the roosters if they keep going poor and dump Robbo, or move into a building and coaching role for the Pasifika team that will enter the league in 2027

And why would wayne rather take the job of a man he originally invested in to succeed him at south's??

Or maybe he'd like to return to Newcastle?? Nothing but good memories there.

Roosters would be silly to lose robbo, if they do we should get him.

The other shit teams all have new coaches.

We are in the box seat imo..... if tomorrow goes poorly we need to strike.

Wayne would be a good get he has unlocked his halfback at most clubs he has been at..

It would possibly cause a little clean out.

Robbo is shit pass on him ...
