I think Mals role as interim coach would be more of role model and mentor to the players ( Walker,Latreen) and settle the club until a long term option is found.
Just posted similar. Yeah, I don't think Mal will want his reputation ruined.

Just heard that Schuster has 3 years left with Manly at $800K starting next year.

Apparently he hasn't been released, but they've told him he's not in their plans and to find another club.

That's all well and good for Manly. Although contracts aren't worth much anymore, they still are a legally binding agreement and if there is to be an early termination both parties have to agree to the termination. If I was Schuster I'd tell them to get farked, turn up for reserve grade and collect my $2.4 million, plus whatever he's getting this year.

That way when he's finished his NRL career at the end of 2027 he'll be the proud outright owner of a home in Sydney, and have a large stack dough saved in his account on top. Because he's so lazy he's got f**k all chance of getting any long term injuries, especially brain injuries.

Then he just does what he wants. Get a job in construction or similar with some mates. Play a bit of A grade or union if he wants. Or maybe another NRL club with no brains will come knocking with another large contract.

It's easy to say the players are too spoilt and get too much money they don't deserve, which I do agree with to a large extent, but it was the clubs who first started shafting contracted players. Manly started the practice when they moved Vautin on to Easts, saying he wasn't wanted or needed anymore. This to the club captain who'd given everything for them. Well the chickens have sure come home to roost.

Stand your ground Josh and collect your money
Yep, he basically has to quit for him to come off Manly's cap. Maybe medically retire due to his belly. Same with Latrell.
It's why it's so easy to get rid of coaches, just pay them out, no cap.

Yeh, mainly a managing, baby sitting role. Mal's indigenous background lends well to South's group.
It's JD's roster that he inherited so he can't cry Wolf but I do feel for him having a bunch of pretenders.

Sea Eagles bosses have reportedly included a performance clause in Josh Schuster’s contract that has saved them from having to pay the $2.4 million remaining on his deal.

If true, he’s in trouble, apparently the drags have already said no.

Though to be fair, if it is true, he needs to sack his manager to agreeing to it?

This will be a difficult one. If he's had injuries, which was also reported on NRL360 last night, he could make a case that these have contributed towards the weight gain through no fault of his own. I can see this possibly winding up in court, much like Hasler's exit has.

I may seem to be going overboard in my support of Schuster on this. I definitely agree he's lazy and isn't worth the contract he was given, but the bottom line is Manly signed the contract with all the information about him on the table.

I'm very much a believer in a contract and that it should be adhered to by both the club and the player.

Good points Dom.
I said in a recent post about our Miller, that being over weight, especially an excess gut, is no excuse unless one has an abdominal injury, lower back injury ect that would hinder him doing ab work.
I had 2 x spinal surgeries and I was still able to do knee raises on a support thingy.
I think he's a lazy boy by nature. Love's the food but not the exercise.
I could be way off here because I don't know him but I've seen this sorta thing too many times.
It's dissapointing when I see players with a gut and no definition in the legs. Players in KOE are trying to make a career in the NRL but some don't seem to put in the extra work.
I was critical of our Josh Feledy when I said he had the above issues.
Now Josh looks more cut and looks fitter....as a result he's been playing better, scoring tries and pressing for selection.
The balls in his court if he wants to partner Olam.

Maybe be going the early crow with this one
Shuster and Mitchell are two that I'm glad we dodged but my memory is failing me of more that could join the list.
We are listed as the club chasing anyone of note according to the media merkins.
Can you think of others?
When we think of these players it makes our group look even better.

How many actual spots do we have for next year because don’t a number of the development players transition to top 30 next year as well?
If you open up the file, it will show you all squad information, including development players.

Who would you keep?

KEEP
*Faataape = While he has not set the world on fire, he is a keeper for a few reasons. 1) The man is tenacious and gives 100% out there without question. That alone secures his selection in a position that we need to look at further recruitment for in 2025. 2) The man had a very brief off-season with us. Due to his stellar performances in Qld Cup, we have not seen the best of the guy yet. We may get it, we may not.....but due to his attitude, he is worth a shot and would not command a large salary.

*Fainu: He has blossomed a lot earlier than I thought he would. A must keep for me and Im sure the power brokers at the club would be planning an extension for him already.

UNDECIDED
*Alaimalo = All depends on how he progresses in NSW Cup this year. He seems to have some speed but lets see how he goes this year.

*Simpkin = A decent back up....but certainly expendable if another club wanted to pay up for him.

GTFO
*Douhei = For so many reasons, he must go. Salary, injury, not good enough to hold a spot down in the backline, speed, defence.......I would not keep him even if he greatly reduced his price. One of the most overrated players to ever wear our jersey.

Kepaoa: I don't really see this bloke achieving any great heights. He wouldn't cost the Earth to keep......but let him go if he is blocking someone else's pathway.

Fataape has that nack of being able to create a try from an assist or even scoring the try from about 10 out… with Great balance, strength, awareness and creativity. For some reason I’m thinking of jack wighton but those were more long range tries wighton was a big part of, in a recent game..

Wests Tigers trainer apologies for the teams poor performance. He had left his glasses at home and could only make out a capital V on the jar which he thought stood for Vitamins as he passed them around the team. It turns out it was V for Valium.

Klemmer had a similar reading issue taking Viagra by mistake which explains why he was looking for a bit of head the whole game.
