You have to wonder what is going through Nine's minds.... I mean Melbourne has a NRL team yet there is no regular coverage, yet look at Perth, third Sunday in a row with the Sunday Afternoon game.....

yipppeee for WA! I really don't understand what has changed in Perth unless the news of the WA Reds and some good work by the WARL has shown Ch9 the error of their ways?

Either way it is great news for the West. If only Gallop had leadership abilities and actually started to dictate to Ch9 what was acceptable instead of the other way around!

Between the two of those teams there are at least 4 or 5 Australians playing... and a bunch of South Africans... You could almost say it's Australia v South Africa...
Imagine the outrage if RL done this?

They would be bashed from pillar to post for years, yet not one person in the media has had a go at the nationalities of these players in the teams or the number of people who are not turning up to the games.

FFS, we hear people moaning about the last RLWC which was played in the worst weather seen in England for 900 years, plus the fact the rail employee's were all going on strike, yet RL copped it everywhere, not a f**king peep about Cricket.

Still, the RLWC crowds made the CWC look kinda pathetic

Hypocrites.

They would use the excuse that RL isn't really played in the country, when we know for a fact it is, it doesn't need an NRl or SL to be classed as played in a certain country, they are allowed to have an amature comp.

It's about time something was done about the media in this country, sack the bloody lot and get some people in there who know what the people want, and are not scared to print the bloody truth.

Back to the NRL and 9, both should grow some balls, the NRL should first, and CH9 should be publicly humiliated until it starts doing the right thing about the only winter football code it has.

Imagine how much BS swans and Lions supporters would go on with if they didn't get games on either 10 or 7 every week, the media would bend over backwards to help them out, yet RL gets nothing.

They would print how big the game is in the two states and lie about the ratings beating everything in it's path, yet RL can't get even a frigging replay at a decent time the next bloody day when something else has been put in it's place because it's a so called big event.

And who the hell wants to watch swimming outside of the Olympics?

It's the only time the country gives a stuff about it.

Looks like AFL Eddie everywhere has been listening to Sweeney again

Step aside Benji
By Dean Ritchie

March 30, 2007 12:00

THE greatest swimmer in the world will tonight push Benji Marshall and other rugby league stars aside in a move by Channel 9 that will anger NRL fans.

The NRL and Nine have agreed that tonight's match between Parramatta and Wests Tigers will be played at 8pm because Nine is televising the world swimming championships in Melbourne.

Nine wants to show the match live, with kick-off now back 30 minutes from the customary 7.30pm kick-off.

Nine has bumped the league back to telecast the swimming, which will include a 100m butterfly semi-final involving US champion Michael Phelps, arguably the greatest swimmer Australia has seen.

But the decision means the second Friday night game – Brisbane versus Penrith at Suncorp Stadium – will not finish on air until 11.45pm.

Although Eels officials were reluctant to criticise Nine, club sources say the decision will cost Parramatta $100,000 in ticket sales, catering and merchandising.

A crowd of about 15,000 is expected tonight but that figure could have been higher had the match kicked off earlier.

Parramatta chief executive Denis Fitzgerald declined to comment on the scheduling drama while NRL chief executive David Gallop backed Nine.

"It's not ideal but it is the world swimming championships," Gallop said. "Nine is well known for its excellent coverage of sport."

Asked would the 8pm kick-off affect tonight's crowd, Gallop said: "No. I wouldn't expect it to impact too much.

"Effectively it's only 20 minutes later than normal. The games haven't been starting until 7.40pm to 7.45pm."

Nine's head of sport Steve Crawley gave reasons behind his channel's decision.

"We asked the NRL if the clubs would put kick-off back 15 minutes and the clubs agreed," Crawley said.

"People can now see Michael Phelps in action and Libby Lenton, Jodie Henry and Leisel Jones go for gold.

"In the past we have been criticised for putting events on delay. The clubs and the NRL supported our move to show the match live.

"Last year the television audience didn't get to see matches until 8.30pm. This game will still be earlier than that at 8pm."

The controversy comes as Broncos management slammed a television-driven scheduling decision which has left the premiers with less than four full days to prepare for their grand final rematch with Melbourne.

The Broncos are furious they have been scheduled to meet the Knights in Newcastle at 7pm on Sunday, April 22, before backing up against the Storm in Brisbane the following Friday.

The unusual scheduling of a Sunday night game was made to accommodate coverage of the trans-Tasman Test between Australia and New Zealand at Suncorp Stadium on Friday, April 20.

Given it will telecast only one game on the Friday night, Nine will instead show two NRL games on the Sunday.

The Eels v Bulldogs game will be shown at 4pm, the Knights and Broncos that evening.

"It came as a complete shock to us," Broncos managing director Bruno Cullen said.

"To schedule a game without any notification or consultation is a bit frustrating."

Someone remind Gallop he is the head of the NRL, not the swimming.

Channel 9 and David Gallop. Hang your heads in shame!

The arrogance of Nein and the subservience of the NRL laid bare for all to see. It's getting harder and harder to take Gallop seriously.

Seems some live coverage of RL is getting into northern Victoria....

WIN is the one with live league coverage
5/4/2007

ON behalf of all the rugby league supporters in the WIN Victoria viewing area, I would like to thank WIN Victoria for their live coverage of the rugby league on Friday nights.

To have two games broadcasting live into our living rooms is fantastic, last year we had to either wait up until 11.45pm for the rugby league to commence and sit up until 2am to see one game, or tape it and watch it the next day.

I guess in that respect we also have to thank WIN for losing the money battle for the AFL.

I can see the footy fanatic on Friday nights flicking between both WIN and Prime and lookout if you get between him or her and the remote control.

So, rugby league supporters in the WIN Victoria viewing area show WIN Victoria your support.

Tune in every Friday night to watch four hours of great footy and show WIN that we also deserve to get the 4pm game on Sunday.

Please also go to the Lavington Panthers website — lavingtonpanthers.leaguenet.com.au — to view all information about the Lavington Panthers.

This includes rugby league news, club reports and the Group 9 ladder.

Support the Lavington Panthers at Greenfield Park and surrounding Group 9 towns this year.
