TPAs revealed!

If this graph is accurate then TPAs are not worth the controversy they generate.

Melbourne as you'd imagine getting every leg up from the NRL possible. These figures wouldn't count the briefcase of money JT and Cam received last year.

Im not sure that's true.
The graph shows that with over 800k of TPA's, the Broncos and Melbourne have effectively 8% higher salary cap than other club. Which basically means they are getting an ELITE player (like one of the highest paid played in the game) for free on other clubs

That seems like a pretty significant advantage to me.

Did it include tpas organised by the club or are these just the alleged independent ones? What’s in the new salary cap for allowed club organised tpa’s?

Yeah that was my point though - only 2 clubs are getting enough to put towards a significant player. So basically you're creating all this resentment amongst fans for keeping possibly 2 players in the code.

Would be much better if 3rd party was scrapped and the NRL allowed a $400,000 marquee allowance for 1 player at each club, made up of third party and/or club payments.

Very difficult to believe this data and the validity of TPA’s in general. Does the figure for the Roosters include the promised funds for Cronk’s university education promised to him when he retires?

Why would it if it doesn't fall into the 2018 season?

Lol because that promise of revenue may have influenced his decision to go to the roosters?

Like I said, the validity of TPA’s has to be severely questioned. What’s to stop clubs from paying a player “crap” money though when their services have been severed they set them up with a house, car and boat?

I'm assuming the NRL neuroscience division will next be releasing brainwave information on players' thought processes during contract negotiations.

What evidence would you require to be convinced the figures are accurate?

None that can be provided, without knowing what a players salary is and who is getting how much in tpa's its all guess work.

It's just a bit hard to believe that Sydney clubs either can't either get tpa's for their players or don't see an advantage.

Slater and Smith are pretty well known in Melbourne but can they be worth so much more than any Sydney player in Sydney?

Here's a list of the 2018 teams, in order of TPA. In the brackets is where they finished in the regular season.

Melbourne (2nd)
Brisbane (6th)
Nth Queensland (13th)
Souths (3rd)
Penrith (5th)
Cronulla (4th)
NZ (8th)
Easts (1st)

Canberra (10th)
Manly (15th)
Newcastle (11th)
Wests Tigers (9th)
St George/Ill (7th)
Gold Coast (14th)
Canterbury (12th)
Parramatta (16th)

Other than one or two outliers, it's pretty clear that third party deals directly correlates to success. Or vice versa, depending on who you follow.

Is it not painfully evident that all the Sydney clubs are fighting for TPA's in the same market? (same as sponsorship, how many clubs have Bryden's Lawyers on board for example?).

Melbourne have an entire city almost the size of Sydney to themselves.

I really dont see the problem with these TPAs...

If a Sydney club is jealous of Melbourne or Brisbane, they can relocate to where the money is. If they choose not to, they have no one to blame but themselves.

The way you are making it sound is that the Melbourne Storm are the only professional sporting team in the entire city and that they don't have to compete with other sporting codes for sponsorship dollars.

It's not like Suzuki or HostPlus have a 'separate' money aside to only put towards an NRL side that they couldn't instead give to an AFL, A-League, NBL, Super Netball, etc. team.

no i dont think so, if you gave parramatta an extra 800k they would of still came last,
those clubs on the top are just run better.
