Didn't this get a run a couple of years ago that ended up a bust. There was a few NRL players involved from memory like Lance Hohiha

Yes, but that was also Covid time I think.

I’m interested whether this is a chance at getting up, or just pie in the sky.

I hope for the former, but fear the latter.

Nice to see the Rabbitohs have reached out to the Barracudas whilst they are based out of San Diego

The Rabbitohs have invited the local San Diego rugby league team, the Barracudas, to their training session on Friday.

The Barracudas have an amateur men’s and women’s team and are founding members of the Pacific Coast Rugby League competition that launched last year.

The 2023 competition included eight teams, with the competition set to expand in 2024 with the introduction of the West LA Jackrabbits and the Sacramento Immortals.

The Rabbitohs have invited the Barracudas to watch them train on Friday and will gift the club their training gear and equipment once they finish their pre-Vegas camp next week.

San Diego also plays home to a professional rugby union team, the San Diego Legion. It’s the home of former Wallabies star Matt Giteau and ex-All Blacks sensation Ma’a Nonu, who will both play in this year’s Major League Rugby competition.

Members of the Legion coaching staff have also requested to come and watch South Sydney’s training session on Friday. It remains unclear if Giteau or Nonu will also come along to the Bunnies’ training session at Triton Soccer Stadium at UC San Diego.
Last year the Barracudas played a scrimmages, practiced and held a combine on the Legions practice field at the request of the LEGION, not the Barracudas asking. So that's a example of Union and league getting along

Another couple of silly questions from me.

With the 3 LA teams, do they have parts of LA they are based / represent ?
Or do they all train & play out of the same facility?
Yes each represents a different part of the city but also the LA county its self. Can't tell you exactly what team represents what but they do. I belive they each have their own practice fields but matches are up in the air. They could share one area to cut costs or each have their own home field.

Appropriate that the USA v Canada Test Match has finished in a 16-all draw.

The Ontario Ospreys have won the Women's Vegas 9s, whilst the Sacramento Immortals have won the Men's Vegas 9s.

So in addition to the Nines, Test Match, NRL Double Header & Referees accreditation, we also had last week:

Coaching Accreditation: 60+ individuals all received their level 1 coaching accreditations last week, with the likes of Brad Donald & Mike Castle involved in the process.

School Visits: NRL held coaching clinics at Jack Dailey Elementary School, Desert Oasis High School and Charles Silvestri Junior High School in the lead up to the Double Header.

Utah Clinic: Mike Castle has visited Salt Lake City this week post the double header to provide additional clinics for both Utah Senior & Junior players

New Women's Club: Teena Granby, one of the founders of Roots Rugby, has established the New York State Queens club. Club is affiliated with the Brooklyn Kings and is the first RL club established in the North East.

Detroit joins Chicago: The Chicago North Shore team, who played in the Vegas 9s, actually brought with them players from Detroit RFC, such was the interest in trying Rugby League from the squad. Hopefully with the Queens side getting established & the growth of the Toronto based Ontario Ospreys, something can be done to encourage the likes of Chicago & Detroit to play some games.

Hawaii 9s: A women’s training clinic & 9s tournament has been announced to take place at Kapi'olani Park in Hawaii this October (7-12). $5K prize money has been put up for first prize.

Arizona: Some ex-pats have put up their hands to try & establish RL in Arizona. Whilst only early days, it's exciting to see interest bubbling up in new places.

Oregon: The Willamette Valley Haybalers officially start training this Saturday. Oregon's only RL club (so far) is taking some positive steps forward after holding a series of social events.

Storm v Panthers: A new US TV deal is still in discussion, but as a small positive, Storm v Panthers has been promoted from Fox Sports Plus to FS2 this Friday & will be replayed on Sunday afternoon.

Have Roots confirmed they are starting a RL team? I believe they are a RU club so far?

Roots at the moment, is pretty much just doing short form Rugby competitions. Their schedule for 2024 is:

- Vegas 9s
- Santa Rosa 9s
- Saint Luica 7s
- Aspen Ruggerfest
- Hawaii 9s
- New York 7s
- Freetail 7s

One of the founders, Teena Granby, has helped setup the New York State Queens Women's team and Curtis Cunz, who was involved with the Connecticut Wildcats, is still involved with Roots.
