USA team for Kangaroo matchup

Personally, I think that finding a number of grandparent rule ring ins for the sake of competitiveness is even less desireable than the All Stars idea. Everyone will know they aren't really American - all they will see is that the organisers have tried to dupe them into getting behind a team full of Aussies and Brits with tenuous links to the States.

If you're gonna get ring-ins, do it properly. For the score to be any less than 150 - 0, they will be needed. I'd rather see Carney and Farrel lining up than some no name Aussie.

It's a promotional game. An All-Star style team with 3 or 4 international star players would be both more competitive and more attractive than and Tomahawks outfit consisting mainy of half-baked pros from overseas. Its not the World Cup, its not an important international match - getting all high and mighty about player qualification defeats the purpse ie to put on a bit of a show for any Yanks who happen to watch.

yankeeboy,

the ONE ANE ONLY reason not to hold this match in in NY, DC or Phila is the the weather, which is is lkely to be be worse in the UK 1 or 2 weeks earlier.

The people most likey to attend a major RL match in the US include US based RL players, their fans, friends and families, and ex-pats of RL dominated areas, NSW and QL, and northern England.

It is unrealistic to expect that that a significant crowd will show up if the most likely attendees have to travel hundresd or thousands of miles.

This match should only be played outside of the AMNRL "heartland" if there is a commitment to expand RL in the US. Already there has been a match among ESL clubs in Milwaukee, and an SOO match on Long Beach. Is there an RL presence in either area? NO! NO! NO!

Only if the there is planned,, scheduled, and confirmed RL expansion, can the Aust-US match benefit RL in the US outside of AMNRL terretory!!!

Nook,

given the nature of the US audience, a US vs the world match would grab a greater audience, both live and TV, than a Aust vs US and the world,

Americancs like seeing their teams beating the best in the world. Since the "US 13", or "President's 13" or "Barbaians" team suggessted would not represent the US on a Tomahawks tour, in a RLIF WC or any other circumstance, this is hardly the US team.

Lachlan Murdoch, patron saint of RL in the US?!? HA!!!

Th only media Murdoch known in in the US is Rupert, Head of Fox and soon to be former owner of the LA Dodgers.

Lachlan's Fox Sports World shows more soccer (England, Germany, Netherlands, etc), RU (2 or 3 macthes shown live diring S12, NPC and CC with weekly US domesitc contint) than RL ( 1 NRL match per week with SOO and Finals coverage with no US domestic content other than adverts).

From what I hear the Roos with be coming to the states sometime in Decemeber of 2004 with the game being played in the Big Apple N.Y.C. Even know my money will be on the Roos, they will be shocked by the weather. Could have 20 degree weather or snow on the ground. It will be cold.

Perhaps an AMNRL team, the quality of players heading over this year plus guys like Nate Smith would make it a more competitive game. And more American than guys playing abroad.

I wouldn't mind seeing the best Union players in America being given a run. They could train for a month or two - and they would draw the target audience of Union supporters along to see the game. From memory the standout player in the American Union side was an Australian guy who played in the halves. He could play centre and probably has some League experience, or at least would have a good idea about the game.
League and Union have to go forward together in America - a war between the codes would damage both - while co-operation would see both go forward.
