[FONT="]John was born at Crown Street Hospital on 9 February 1929 and was involved with rugby league in the South Sydney District from the early 1940s. He became a member of the managing committee of the Rabbitohs in the early 1960s, and was a Director from 1974 until his retirement in 1995. He also managed various successful South Sydney teams. Among his other notable and lasting achievements was his authorship of the lyrics to the verses of Glory, Glory to South Sydney, the Clubs team song.[/FONT]
[FONT="]For his exemplary and selfless services to the Club, John was awarded Life Membership. He remained devoted to the Rabbitohs until his last days.[/FONT]
[FONT="]John is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his brother Tass, sister Joy and by his extended family. [/FONT]
[FONT="]On behalf of the entire South Sydney family, the Clubs Board and Management extend their deepest sympathies at this time.[/FONT]
[FONT="]The funeral service for the late John Economos will be held at St Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church at 72-76 Gardeners Road, Kingsford at 10.30am on Thursday, 5 May 2011. After the interment service at Botany Cemetery, Johns family and friends are invited to Nicks at Bondi Beach for refreshments.
