With the draft finally done, we've got a few more steps before we can get things off and running after an unusually long off-season.
Below, I've highlighted the steps between now and kick-off.
1). Update formguides.
Roger is compiling an alphabetized list of pick-ups to make my job of adding players to their respective squads easier.
If all goes to plan, these will be out tonight or tomorrow.
While I do this, I will also update salaries using a simplified formula. This ought to give us a baseline for the salary cap.
Done: Formguides can be found here.
2). Rate new players.
He Who Shall Not Be Named and I will rate any players being added to the database. These can be challenged once ratings challenges open up in round five.
Done
3). List squads and positional changes
Coaches can make cuts to get under the salary cap if need be.
Coaches need to then post their squad as it should be, with any positional changes listed beside the player name in brackets.
Positional changes are at my discretion.
4). Assign contracts
He Who Shall Not Be Named is working on a contracts model for us now. Once I look it over and give it the go ahead, I'll share it here.
Contracts are, in essence, a secondary salary cap to ensure that player salaries are not permanently locked in and that players hit the market every year.
You'll have a years 'cap' to spend on players (with a maximum of five years assigned to any one player).
At the end of each year, all contracts get one year shorter. Players coming off contract enter into the draft.
At the end of each season, each club will receive a number (TBA) of extensions they can use to retain players off contract or shore up existing contracts. Recontracting a player updates their salary to reflect their current ratings and adds a percentage based on the length of the contract.
Players who go off contract have their salaries re-evaluated at their current ratings and enter into the draft.
5). Play ball!
Once all sides are under the salary cap and have their contracts locked in, we'll be free to start the season.
Rerates will open in round five, but trades and player pool access will open at the beginning of the season.
We are still 3-4 coaches short of a full complement, so please let your friends know.
