Where should WC profits go?

What is the plan for using any profit we make from the WC? What do you think it should be used for?

A few ideas:
  • Helping the tier 2 / 3 nations?
  • Helping those nations on the fringes, like Serbia etc?
  • Laying groundwork for the US/Canada WC?
  • Getting sport accord recognition sorted?
  • Poaching RU comps/clubs?
  • Governance / RLIF admin?
  • Funding more tests in between WCs?
Hopefully not a new centre of excellence for an NRL club or top up to Australian wages...

You assume it makes profit, this is not the point of the exercise.

Break even would be fine, even a loss.

The idea is to promote the game of Rugby League. This it achieves.

It must make a profit otherwise the RLIF makes no income.

That is a problem in itself. It would go down like a lead balloon but it would be good if established RL nations like Australia and UK paid a RLIF tax or something. Ie 5-10% of NRL or SL income helps fund RLIF.

Well judging by the disparity between UK and Australian salary caps, we can safely assume that’s a total non starter.

If it makes a loss how do we keep holding World cups?

It should go towards staging meaningful tests and tournaments for all nations in the next three years. There's plenty of opportunity now that the ANZAC test and Four Nations have gone - annual tests during the Origin weekend, Kiwi/Lions/Kangaroo/French/PNG tours, European tournaments, Pacific tournaments, Trans-Tasman test series, World Cup Qualifiers for all nations that meet the criteria and that's all without getting too ambitious

Assistance grants for developing nations to get started or reach higher levels. Covering things like gear, referee and coaching training, Advertising, Web and social media presence.

Assistance grants for tier 2 and 3 nations to stage meaningful and professional quality test matches. Contributing to things like stadium hire and travel costs.

Launching an American RL federation to cover North and South America rather than being run under the RLEF

Staging and marketing the following events at a professional quality and ensuring they are visible worldwide:
2021 Qualifiers
Pacific, European, American, MEA Cups (via regional federations)
World 9s Circuit and/or WC
RLIF Championship (mid cycle top tier event)

1. Making sure 3 events are held every year, are well funded, broadcast internationally, are promoted and look professional:

- Pacific Cup
- Euro Cup
- Atlantic Cup

2. Making sure there is a 9's World Cup and a Confederations Cup held once every four years - that they are broadcast internationally, are well promoted and look professional.

3. Bribe whoever needs to be bribed to get Sports Accord recognition

These three things will show the world that international RL is serious and that will lead to all sorts of flow on benefits and commercial opportunities.

The money should go first to the 2nd tier nations that have prospects of getting competitive with the Big 3 -- that is France and PNG. For example a one or two year grant to Toulouse Olympique could help them get into Super League, at which point their funding will increase from the RFL and French sponsors. Money to support junior development in France and PNG would also go a long way. Finally money to pay French and PNG players in the World Cup and other tests (e.g. US$2000 a match) would be a massive incentive for the players.

With remaining money I would give coaching support and footballs to fringe nations like Serbia and even Lebanon (domestic).

Canada and USA don't need support from the RLIF. They already have billionaire backers for the new clubs, and the national organisers won't need financial support --- if they need any --- before 2023/2024.

Has to go to infrastructure in developing nations. Nrl seems keen to support the Pai's and png to develop, RFL should be supporting the home nations, let's use the mo year to help the others get the right infrastructure and regular games. And some legal advice on fighting the union undermining at a governing level around the world!

Agree plus
- Asia Cup

But I would to see financial assistance in staging a Emerging Nations World Cup

U18s 9s World Cup
U20s World Cup

I think RLEF has it house in order so I wouldnt spend money on a Euro Cup from RLIF funds

But I would assist Africa nations like Kenya and Ghana and South Africa establish a Africa Cup

Like Hong Kong, Serbia, America, Lebanon
ahahah
mainly France because it seems to me that it is the only developing nation that works with young people and has teams of young people. After rewarding the countries that make efforts try to get by: Wales, USA, Canada (Without Toronto) PNG, Serbia, Real Italia, Jamaica etc.

Mate Hong Kong has grown heaps in the last 2 years, and Lebanon is in over 20 schools and 11 universities. They are putting in the hard yards, unlike Scotland.

What would France do with the money?
