Guns in search of sixth
YOUNG Guns coach Adrian Thomson would much prefer his side to be fighting for a semi-final berth but instead will have to settle for sixth or seventh when North Queensland battle with Norths Devils at Bishop Park tomorrow.
After winning their last four games, the Young Guns are just one competition point behind sixth-placed Toowoomba and a win against Norths and a loss by the Clydesdales would see Thomson's team cap a strong finish to the season.
A sixth-placed finish would also appropriately sum up a season in which the Young Guns have been close, but not close enough -- dropping games by the narrowest of margins.
"We can (finish sixth) and that is obviously our goal but it's not going to be easy," Thomson said.
"Norths have got their strongest team on the paddock for a couple of weeks.
"But we've had some good performances over the last few weeks and we want to finish off well."
The Young Guns were yesterday strengthened by the inclusion of winger Brenton Bowen and back-rower Jacob Lillyman, who drop back to the Queensland Cup after the inclusion of Matt Sing and Daniel Strickland in first grade.
Front-rower Jamie McDonald is unlikely to travel with the team to Brisbane tomorrow afternoon because of an ongoing ankle injury with Ben Laity moving from the second row to prop.
YOUNG GUNS: Jason Barsley, Brenton Bowen, Wallace Solomona, Aaron Morgan, Neil Sweeney, Michael Meigan, Daniel Sorbello, Ben Laity, Steve Goodhew, Matt Scott, Ben Lowe, Jacob Lillyman, Derrick Watkins. Interchange: Simon Phillips, Mick Casey, Dean Limpus, Ben Rauter.
