Everything! Mainly the grass roots. The grass roots has held back Australia, they need fixing.

There is the national youth league being brought in next year, which will do a great deal to help keep our youth players fit and give them an avenue into the A-League.

Really, the FFA doesn't currently have the cash flow needed to really pour money into youth investment. To make cash they need for the Socceroos to qualify for the World Cup, and for the A-League to continue to improve.

thought i would actually write something in my own post:
There is alot to be done...
Firstly FFA need to get each a league club a youth team (eg national youth comp)
being under 21's with 3 or 4 over aged players to play.

They need to have a centre of excellence for each a league team. much like an academy starting from 12 year olds. nuturing and bringing them along...

This along with the use of coerver again in NSW..being introduced to all associtions and clubs at a cheaper price.

It comes down to money but we need to get the ball rolling. our intitutes of sports have dropped in standard dramatically as nothing is happening at a younger age

This has already been done. The national youth league starts next season, and there is already a women's league in place.

I do agree that we need to institute state institutes of excellence but we need the money to do it. The Socceroos need to continue to perform, and the A-League needs to expand so as to increase its sponsorship potential, its TV negotiation rights, and it's general income.

The Labour govt did pledge 32 million to the FFA if they got elected, so that is a start...

Labor to double govt funding - SBS

Federal Labor has unveiled plans to pump $32million in to football over the next four years.

This will include four elements. The first element is of course supporting grass-roots local clubs with a facilities fund."

"The second element is supporting our national teams."

"The third element is supporting a televised national women's league, and the fourth element - very importantly - is supporting our coaches, administrators, referees and volunteers through both education and recognition programmes."

Needs to begin with the coaches. We need good junior coaches to develop kids.

More use of small sided games in younger age groups u9-u12. No point having 11 year olds playing on full sized fields just bashing the ball around. The increased time on the ball in small sided games would hopefully develop greater ball skills in younger players.

It's a sad but common practice. A lot of country soccer organisations have their kids playing on these collosal fields and they learn absolutely nothing about the game except how to run around for an entire game and how to kick a ball hard.

Coaching is also important. There seems to be a major emphasis on winning the game at junior levels (especially from parents who are living out their failed sporting careers) rather that developing players. That must change.
