Penrith's draw this year...

They play the Dragons, Titans, Sharks, Raiders and Knights - aka the 'Fab Five' - twice each.

And they only play the Roosters, Rabbits and Manly once. And also the Cowboys and Broncos once (both at home).

Who did their season draw, Phil Gould?

Look, they're a solid team who are well and truly on the up. But that's borderline match fixing!

They're the Gold Coast Suns of the NRL.

Yeah and who would have thought the knights, sharks and possibly titans would be going so ordinary?
Haters going hate.

Everyone had knights and sharks top 8 at the start of the year. So enjoyable that my club is finally becoming good enough to get some hate

It's great to see! We usually are liked by everyone because we are normally hopeless.

The hate means some people are starting to envy us.

Someone misses Gould's media influence at his club and clutches at straws.

Happens every tear to different teams. If you don't make the finals because of the draw then you were never going to win it anyway. If you do make the finals because of the draw then you get exposed when it counts. Like the bounce of the ball, sometimes it goes your way sometimes it doesn't.

The draw is not fair but who would of picked those five going badly. As an Eels fan I hate the way we play teams twice within five weeks.

Well we actually beat Penrith. We had some luck in the game, and we were only missing a handful of players.

So how unlucky were the Panthers with the draw, playing a team that is giving other, useless sides, a 20 or 30 point differential boost, but playing them when they had more than half they're side in, so not getting the free 30 point win?

On the other hand, the Dragons played a squad missing about 8 regular first graders and won by 2, then a squad with 13 out, and won by 30. A simple mathematical analysis will show that each injury is therefore worth about 5 points, so if we'd had as many players as we did against Penrith, we'd have won each match vs Dragons by about 10, putting us on 10 points on the ladder, and the Dragons fending off Newcastle on 8 points.

Only they arranged the draw to play us at the most convenient times for them, but poor Penrith had to actually play against a first grade side.

Rigged I tells you.

You have just gone to so much effort in giving us the biggest load of irrelevant shit that i have ever read.

Borderline match fixing?

It's not Penrith's fault that other teams are injury hit / out of form / just plain hopeless this year - you can only play the teams put in front of you.

I would have been happy with a position in the top 8 at this stage of the season, let alone being first. But we are only first on F/A - and given the congested nature of the ladder, 1 or 2 straight losses could have us in the bottom part of the 8 or even lower.

Personally, I would love to have a crack at either Canterbury or Manly at the moment to get a true gauge... but there are clear signs for improvement, and as a unit the team seems to be getting better each week.

I think this thread is absolutely ridiculous, but everyone knew the sharks would be horrendous this year due to the ASADA business. It was actually looking possible that they wouldn't be in existence for the duration of the year.

And why would that be?
Trying to say that injuries are worth a definitive amount of points per injured player ?Players who are so called filling in can lift and put in great performances, players who are out injured were playing poorly anyway and so on and so on.....

This is an outrage.
They should play Manly, Roosters and Bulldogs 5 times each, everyone else once.

A much fairer draw.

I can't remember a year where the best team didn't win the comp (in years where the cheats didn't lift the trophy). So whatever. If they're a great side, they'll go far. If they aren't, they'll bomb in straight sets.

I was a childhood Pennies man, I am a massive Ivan Cleary fan...but I cannot get behind them this year. Jamie f**king Soward and his dualling pistols. Give me f**king strength.

OP is right, there’s got to be an investigation into this.

I'm not trying to say injuries are worth a definitive amount of points per player. You're missing my point.

Obviously Carney was worth 6.7 points, but Tupou was only 3.1 points. Jonno Wright missing was actually worth - 4.2 points, so the Dragons were a bit unlucky there that he wasn't playing, so maybe the draw wasn't rigged in their favour...

Your first paragraph followed immediately by your second has made me laugh. Thank you.
