Well I would take Manly out of the occasion since he's not even in the top 17 there. We can actually offer him a spot in ours and progress his development at a faster rate. We've seemed to do an outstanding job with Junior Paulo who at this time last year was in the same position Trbojevic is in now.

I believe King will be gone next year, and Trbojevic is almost certainly earmarked to replace him. That's just smart succession planning.

An absolute joke of a charge, continue to take away the aspects of the game that make this such a great game and they won't attract new fans, and will lose existing fans.

I get your point. But do we want to minimise serious spinal injuries or don't we? Paulo will have his day in court and will get off. The speed with which the game is played these days means the ref was probably uncertain as to whether Paulo had a case to answer or not - so he put him on report and will let a higher authority decide. I've got no problem with that. Personally I think it was a brilliant tackle. But the difference between a brilliant tackle and a serious neck injury is measured in microns sometimes.

I get the whole preventing of spinal injuries.
But they should then crack down hard on the dirty grubby acts, Gurgess should have 5-6 weeks off, he purposely tried to injure Matai.
Reynolds should be about the same, that just got beyond a joke.

Since the no fighting rule all we have had is niggling, grubby acts becuase they can get away with it.

The no fighting rule is one that should be changed ASAP, the game would improve a lot from it.

They should be forced to fight one-on-one, like in ice hockey.

I think the powers that be want to have a game with no fighting, no cheap shots and no head or spinal injuries. Just a very athletic and skilful game that, while it can be rugged, is never overtly violent. Sounds fair enough to me. The problem is they aren't consistent. But that could be for a number of reasons.

Jarryd Hayne has revealed talks of extending his Parramatta contract are on hold as he aims to guide the Eels into the NRL finals for the first time since 2009.

The 26-year-old has been in electrifying form in recent weeks guiding the 2012 and 2013 wooden spooners to three straight wins with six tries, leaving them one spot outside of the top eight on points differential to Canterbury, who they meet on Friday.

It comes on the back of playing an integral role in NSW finally beating Queensland to win a first State of Origin series in nine years.

The Eels are desperate to open discussions with the Test star to sign a deal that will make him a one-club man with his current agreement due to expire at the end of 2015.

But Hayne, who only signed a one-year extension last year, said he’s no interest in talking until at least the end of the season to focus himself on the push for the finals.

“I am still signed for another year,” Hayne said.“I am here to win games and play football. Distractions are no good for me at the moment I just want to focus on what I do and the rest will look after itself.”

Hayne’s performances this season are on par with the incredible displays he produced five years ago to help the Eels to the grand final on his way to winning the Dally M Medal.

However, he believes the current team are not as reliant on him as previous Eels sides who he said were not helped by the superlatives bestowed upon him by the media.

“I am pushing blokes this year not to get caught up in the hype and read the headlines,” he said.

“For me it’s important for me to give blokes who don’t get much media a rap so it’s not all about me.

“If I don’t have a forward pack that doesn’t run hard then I cannot do my thing.

“I have always known how good I am, even when we’re not going so well. “But it is a team game and if everybody is not pulling together then it doesn’t matter how good anyone is.”

Hmmmm.....no spinal injuries is a given..but if you want to design a game with no head injuries, it ain't going to involve large men running at each other at high speed. It's tough getting the balance right between acceptable aggression and thuggery, I concede.

he loses nothing by waiting .... but maybe gains: helping us make finals for first time in 5 years; possible dally m winner; possible leading try scorer in the NRL
