First Live Band/Artist You Ever Saw

My earliest memory of watching a band live would've been the Warratahs (Kiwi band most famous for their "cruising on the Interislander" song from TV ads in the mid-90s) with the family, around '94 when I was 12/13. I recall it being really quite enjoyable.

Earliest concert that I went of my own accord (with mates rather than with family) would've been the combo of Shihad & HeadLikeAHole for the Uni toga party in 2000 (of course I have very little memory of that night!).
First major international concert I went to was BDO 2001 (Rammstein, Limp Bizkit, Placebo, Mudvayne etc), and first major international non-festival concert I went to was Tool/Melvins in 2002.

Good times.

you guys are so old

don't worry it will happen to you too before you know it.

When I was late teens early 20's was when the whole grunge thing hit.

It was an unbelievable time for music.
I saw Nirvana one week and then the violent femmes the next at the same pub.

We used to go out and see bands that were on the radio ( JJJ ) in pubs up to 4 times a week.

Now.........nuthin!
I have kids and they play that f**king Happy song and riptide over and over again.
blink of an eye it was all over.

My first show was Frenzal Rhomb at The Edge Nightclub in Broadbeach. First International band was NOFX at The Arena.

Very nice. That would have been awesome. Bantha Fodder were a great Aussie band.

Would have been an awesome first show. I actually was in Sydney for the Millencolin/Pennywise/Mad Caddies sidewave from around 2011/2012, was one of the best shows I have been to. The noise from everyone singing along to Millencolin was incredible.
First international band i saw I think was Pennywise, supported by bodyjar, very early 2004

First band I saw was Led Zepplin, seen thousands of bands since

Man, what a first concert!

I've seen two of the three remaining. Saw John Paul Jones when he came out with Them Crooked Vultures, and saw Robert Plant at Bluesfest last year. Just need Jimmy Page, or somehow Led Zeppelin to tour and seen the Trinity.

For me it was slim Dusty in Melbourne in the years between 1989-91. Don't remember the year. Eventually my sister and I fell asleep because he played for aaaaaaaages!

Mid 90s, all ages gig at the Roxy in Brisbane - Pennywise, Blink 18promoterpretty unknown), One Inch Punch (different to the later JJJ darlings, they changed their name but I can't remember to what) and another Aussie punk band... Bantha Fodda maybe? Packy might remember.

One inch punch became mid youth crisis.

jay the drummer is a mate/colleague and I asked him about the name change. I always thouht it had something to do with the band with the same name on the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack.

Basically that was part the reason because they were meant to go on a tour of Europe and the promoter basically told them that they couldn't tour with that name so they changed it.

No wonder you fell asleep...boring old fart and a plagiarist to boot.

Back in the mid 60s, Slim Dusty used to run songwriting contests with a first prize of something like 20 pounds. Quite a few of his famous songs came from entrants in this contest, not penned by himself. No copyright or intellectual property laws back in those days unfortunately.

Yeah true. I usually don't willingly go in unless pushed in. But I refuse to take part in hardcore dancing pits though.

I was at the amity affliction show at riverstage on Friday and so many people were coming out just covered in blood from hardcore dancing. Not my idea if fun getting punched kicked and elbowed then sitting out the back with the ambos getting patched up until the show is over.

That was a great tour. The first time I met Randy. He got us backstage and I got to fanboy out and be starstruck. I got to go sing Bro Hymn on stage at the end, was awesome.

The first live music I saw were part of regular Friday night gigs at the 'Cow Shed' which was behind Wentworthville pools, around 1997-ish. No big names, just local bands having a jam but it was a good night out.

I then went to what still remains the only festival I have been too, which was 'Grounded' at Parramatta Raceway in 1999. Vaguely remember seeing Killing Heidi and I think Frenzal Rhomb too.

The first gig I saw was Shihad at Blacktown Workers in 2000. The supporting act was Weta, a short lived NZ band who's one and only album Geographica is an absolute cracker.

I have since seen Shihad another 3 times (Coogee Bay Hotel when they were Pacifier, the Annandale and down in the 'gong). Seen a whole heap of other bands, but Shihad is always one I am keen to go see again when they come to town.

Shihad's album "The General Electric" was a cracker. Seen them at a BDO in about 2000 I think.

Yeah, I've seen Shihad a bunch of times between 2000 and 2012 (I think that's the last time I saw them), never fail to disappoint live. Might check them out this year if they come through Wellington (surely they must be!).

Weta were great, disappointed not to see them when they were together. Lead singer is now part of Cairo Knife Fight (two piece band who make use of loop pedals in weird and wonderful ways), if you ever get the chance to see them live I'd highly recommend.

EDIT : just had a look on Shihad's FB site for upcoming tour, they are actually playing with CKF for the Australia dates late Oct/early Nov.
