By August next year Hayne is unlikely to have played a game in the NFL. Surely he has to first register for the draft, and either get picked or passed over (at which point he can sign for whoever he likes). Then the season starts in Sept 2015. I guess he might learn enough in his time on practice squad to find out if he is no chance at all.

I think the way Eels are planning it is if they can grab a marquee for 2015 they will (Folau - I'd still want NRL chipping in or Foran) otherwise they'll just grab good salary cap fillers (Hoffman) & wait until 2016 to see if Hayne will return

we can't afford to plan our recruitment around what hayne might or might not do

Scott said on MMM tonight that we have roughly 20% of our cap freed up and we might not necessarily look to sign a fullback to replace Jarryd, possibly looking at a 'gun' centre instead. Mentioned Hoppa as a FB option.

They also prodded him about Watmough/Stewart rumours but he just said if they were available we'd be interested in talking.....

Also said they are planning around Hayne potentially returning next year around August if he doesn't make it over there.

You can listen to the interview on MMM Sydney website via podcast, the rush hour.

Option is always Sandow to fullback, Matterson or Kelly to 5-8. Sandow if actually pretty good at positioning himself at fullback but him as the last line of defence is terrible

Surely that couldn't anymore than an absolute spot gap solution for a couple of week. He just doesn't have the fitness to play the position full time.

I would prefer moving hoppa back there and try picking up a middle range centre (brad takairangi or maybe Hoffman for example) and see if we can pick up a bloody good forward - see if we can get the dragons to consider releasing Merrin maybe.

I reckon we are forgetting how good hoppa went at fullback for manly back in 2011. He had some pretty decent games back there. He went alright this year considering two years out and with another offseason and some spirit training he would be ready for a move back there.

If we some how manage to pick up a decent centre and very good forward and hoppa returns to his past form (and watmough is still coming) , 2015 won't be a write off just yet. We may even be in a better position with a better balanced side.

If we can beef up our forward pack I think Ben barba would be a good cheap solution. Look what he did behind a good pack at dogs

Your pack is not anywhere near that pack.

Barba is also on a massive back ended contract. His release was that he would not be paid MORE then he was to be paid by the Dogs during the length of his Dog contract. After that it is big bucks.

It's the only reason Brisbane are willing to ship him on. Eels would pay the lot.

Never said our pack was like that but you under estimate our forwards. I'm saying if we can get a big pack together a fullback like Hoffman or Barba wouldn't be the worst option. And barba wouldn't be expensive. Brisbane want him gone and at the moment no one wants him. Eels could hold Broncos to paying some of the contract just for them to release him.

And I'm feeling fine. Sucks Hayne is gone but it presents and opportunity to spread the cap evenly and strengthen other positions especially if we can get a decent fullback or even Hopoate at the back. We will be right.

the ONLY reason any club would help the broncos out is if they paid most of his freight, and it wouldn't be suprising to see them do it given bennett is stuck with someone he doesn't rate

Josh McGuire is off contract end of next season and keen to test the market. Young, hard worker. Unlucky not to be playing for Australia.
