So now everybody is getting over their wrist slashing based on Hayne's departure, I thought it would be fun to have a go at naming a starting 17 for Round 1 2015 - based only on who we have on the books today, not potential signings.

Yeah I like it. Morgan for Crooks though, and I'd probably start Gower with Edwards on the bench.

Actually I reckon a fit Lussick is still in our top 17.

Hoppa is on spine $ (supposedly) so if he can get a yard or 2 of pace back I reckon he can earn his keep in the spine.
He showed this year he can defend one on one, he has the ability to read the game and be in the right spot at the right time, is strong under the high ball, can beat his man and can offload. Add some pace and he could easily be one of the 2 or 3 best fullbacks in the game by the end of 2015.

Well I am in fantasy land, as I am hoping for a top eight spot and reckon we can do it. I also reckon we will add another 1-2 decent players to the side with our cap space. Time will tell.

There are plenty of merkins to spend it on. There's loads of players desperate to get out of contracts and clubs desperate to free up space to rebalance their squads.

The Dragons and Broncos have both publicly declared the need to move merkins on and Manly have a bunch of unhappy players and young stars coming off contract that they are trying to keep.

Every club has players they would be happy to release. Some would even be happy to pay some of the freight.
