Just because Watmong has signed for 4 years, doesn't mean he will play for 4 years.

It will all depend on his form.

It's quite different to the 'Kearney fiasco'. As well as signing Takairangi (who is much better than any of the players you refer to), Champion and the other chaps, we started by re-signing players with real potential like Edwards, Mau, Moeroa, Radradra, etc.

Every club signs some players of the Tak, Champion, Nelson ilk.

Wait - so we have some really talented guys who we made sure to keep, and then upgraded from crap Wenty players like Hunt and Butler-Fleming and Santi and Ma'afu to fringe first graders like Robinson and Champion and Macpherson and Fa'aso (guys around the 100 NRL game mark - something the guys we ditched will NEVER get close to)

And on top of all that added a champion lock (our weakest position by 12 country miles last season); who also happens to bring veteran leadership to a position that most of our talented youngsters play in.

I think you're being wildly optimistic Baz, nothing positive in any of these moves so far

Sure, Hayne is a massive loss, but lets wait and see who we replace him with before giving up altogether?

Just something you have to get used to on here.

Some people on here will whinge about just about everything the club does, apparently nothing is good enough.
But they are "supporters"
So supporters should just blindly cheer no matter what???

Who are you to question anyones loyalty??? Anyone that is still a fan after the last 5 years of shit is a true fan and a supporter. I'm not happy with the shit we are recruiting so that doesn't make me a supporter??? Get off your high horse, i'd rather be a realist and question where the club is heading then a cheerleader like yourself who gets the poms poms out no matter what is happening.

People are carrying on like we just signed the Canterbury 4 or something

Not one other club wanted him.

Actually, one did, but a complete management overhaul saw them renege.

And he is by far one of the better signings.

We are truly a basket case.

How did we not sign watmough for 8 or 10?

f**k me dead.
Spot on, i could cop Wamough for 3 years Manly only offered 2 so you would have expect to offer him that extra year but 4???? Truly desperate we are,i'd hate to think of the coin we are throwing at him. Taka is a solid first grader but he was just let go by two clubs in a month. And don't get me started on Sef Paulo being kept, finally i thought we would be rid of this bloke instead he gets a two year deal. People bagged Kearney for signing blokes for the sake of it to fill the cap it looks like it is happening all over again.

Manly offered two but already had him contracted for next year.

Im concerned about hoppa at fullback on the back of last year's end of season form and lack of experience.

And if watmough was going to be a good signing for two years - then he's stills good signing for this year and next!

I'd love to get a dynamic runner at fullback or possibly centre.

Maybe a genuine hard nut prop or even another back rower.

Something like:

Dugan
Radrada
Hopoate
Takairangi / champion
Robinson
Norman
Sandow
Watmough
Mau
Moera
Mannah
Peats
Kennedy/McGuire

Jr Paulo
Mossop
Edwards
Etc

Starts to be a well balanced, tough side with strikepower and a bit of starch.

I know Dugan /McGuire are not actually available and I'm not whinging that we don't have blokes like that.

But those two players - or two like them - could make a massive difference to the overall squad and the top 17.

So you are happy with us signing him for 4 years???

I dare say it was required to get him for the first couple.

What are we doing with Haynes money??? are we front loading anyone or will we continue to sign depth nuffies on overs???

We have signed a bunch of hard, experienced forwards plus a couple of experienced backs in their prime. Experience is never cheap (unless it's old or injury prone), but it is something we've desperately needed.

Hoppa wasn't to bad last year, showed some nice skills and class. But do agree he did struggle a bit at times, but this is probably reflective of his two years out of the game. He basically did no training for two years - yeah he did some light weights each morning but this doesn't go any where near what regular NRL players do. He basically came back around November a skinny rack and had three months to get fit, 3 months might be enough fitness wise but f**k all time to build up his muscle / strenght - and this showed towards the end of the year where he looked tired.

With another offseason he should come back a lot stronger and a lot better player.

And lets not forget that the club told Daley and Co that Hoppa didn't have the muscle back on his frame for Origin and they ignored them, picked him, he got hurt and wasnt the same for the rest of the year.

Hoppa will be fine - he is class.

I agree, Hoppa is the least of our problems next year.

Watmough for 2 would of been great.3 a stretch-if manyl was offering 2yrs plus the one he had left that makes 3 so i guess we had to offer an extra one.
Its possible he will be ok.Look at willie or petro. But the question is how much $$ is he on in his 3rd and 4th years. We dont know the contract.Perhaps those years the club has a clause pending on games played etc...So i guess we cant say a lot untill we know.I realy doubt seward and BA would do something that stupid(pay him 600k x 4yrs) Especialy the fact that we are not that desperate for a second rower in comparisson to yrs ago.We just had KE-MAnu-Pauli-Tepai come thru in one year

Spot on Pou.

And who is to say what the value of the 4th year is. Might be $600k, might be $200k. Until we know that, I wont be bagging the club for signing someone of Watbro's calibre.

What we are paying watmough depends on my thoughts on the situation. If its over 300k for his last two years than we truly are going backwards. He will only be a squad player by then IMO.Maybe a off the bench type player.

Have a look at his recent Twitter photos. He's a lot bigger.

I'd doubt you'd sign too many current SOO reps where their final two years of their contract is less than $300k, regardless of age.
