Ahh, that will be it - the Watson link was very direct/literal...

twizzle was thinking of Glenn Trimble, I think - his old man had a pretty good first class career - people sometimes mistook Trimble for Trumble

I think you're thinking of John WATKINS--a leggie from Newcastle--played one test against the Pakis at the SCG--sprayed them everywhere.

In that test,however,he was an unlikely hero with the bat & was responsible to a large degree for winning the test for the Aussies.
He'd previously scored only 12 runs in 5 matches for NSW.In his only test he put on 83 runs with Massie[he scored 36]in the tail.
This was enough for Aust. to end up winning so he was quite a hero.
He was taken to the Windies but his bowling became so paltry that he gave it away.He returned to N/castle & continued his cricket----as a BATSMAN!!
