But he's on the way down as a player and I don't think you build a top aide in the NRL with that sort of player at fullback.

This is a serious question, because I don't know what your answer will be: do you build a top side in the NRL with someone worse than Gordon at fullback??

Bevan isnt at that point yet. There's still more than a chance that he might never get there.

Yes, I agree re: French. There is no guarantee that he will make it. But he has the right tools in his arsenal to be mildly optimistic about his chances.

We'd be a far better chance of doing something next year, and stronger for the future, with a Munster type at fullback.

Is anyone debating this point? Of course Munster would be a better option at fullback. But he is contracted to another club already - sure, we may have made overtures towards him, but nobody is under any obligation to release him.

The issue is that our junior stocks were kicked in the guts over the last few years, and need some restocking. I really hope that we're making the right moves on that front with recent appointments. But because we have had fewer juniors, we have had to look to a solid veteran to fill the gap - it is HARD to just poach someone else's juniors.... if you try that you end up with Cheyse Blair types (is he worse than Morgan? I think so...)

Don't get angry that we're excited about Gordon. Bottom line is he makes us better next year in 2 crucial areas - goal kicking, and fullback play (defensively and offensively). Goal kicking alone could have won us another 2-3 games this season (that sees us playing in week 1 of the finals). It's a fairly major stride forwards, and it is only a 1 year deal. We will know by mid year if French is panning out, if not, let's see which other 19 year olds are full of promise, and try lure one of them.

This year we showed that we didn't necessarily need a strong attacking fullback to score points, so with better halves and a better forward pack next year there's less reason that we need a strong attacking fullback to provide us with an option. What Gordon will bring to the team will be his defensive positioning and kick return metres which have suffered with Robinson, Norman and Hoppa at the back. And because he's played fullback longer than Robinson, Hoppa and Norman he knows where to position himself in attack better particularly around the forwards.

He isn't as strong on the sweep as a Robinson or Norman are but can provide a little bit of good play there. And if we need someone stronger as the 3rd receiver on the sweep we can easily do what we did this year and have one of the halves on the sweep or if we do re-sign Robinson we can put Gordon out on the right wing and have Robinson sweeping around which should provide a bit more explosive pace.

If he stays injury free I think he'll be one of the best buys for the team. He's an absolute professional and despite his few injuries a couple of years back he's still one of the strongest goal-kickers in the competition. Will be a huge in teaching French and possibly Davis how to play first grade.

Oh and didn't we sign someone called Kieren Moss who could possibly learn from Gordon as well next year if French isn't ready?

Yes, but because he is yet to play Origin, he is crap.
Unless we didn't sign him, then he would've been a player we were morons for not chasing.

I hardly think teaching French should be part of his job description.

Surely all the calls are done in English.

Nah, that's where we can have a one up on the opposition. They won't know what we're calling and then they'll have to sign shit French players like Remi Casty so that they know what's going on.

Have we signed Davis and what about Tanginoa?

Moss will play first grade before Bevan. Both are a little small to play wing thou.
Plenty say Gordon will be our buy of the season.I rekon it will be Cameron King ;)

I don't think Davis will be retained and last I heard the club have gone cold on Tangi due to his asking price

Don't know how Kelepi could ask for much more than minimum salary, he's only managed a handful of games, from the bench, in 2-3 seasons.

He'll have an existing contract.....I'm pretty sure we signed him til the end of 2016 (presumably for healthy $$$), then we shipped him to the Cowboys, with us paying some of the freight. His asking price will be affected by the fact that he can just sit where he is and get paid whatever we agreed to pay him back in early 2014.
