The Dyldam Parramatta Eels have today announced the signing of outside back Clinton Gutherson to the club for the next two seasons.

The Eels have also signed 20 year-old forward Matthew Woods from the Wests Tigers for the 2016 season.

He was top 17 right up until mid-season when he was made a backup. This coincided with when Kelly was brought into the side.

I don't have to prove it any more than you have to prove otherwise. It's my opinion, and there is more evidence in support of it than against. I agree with Joshuatheeel - it was part of the gameplan for the first half of the season, just as it was part of the gameplan all last year and the two years prior.

It was the gameplan in 2014 not 2015. We changed our attacking structure around this year.

Sorry he was dropped before kelly came in and probably would have seen next to no footy if others were here. Its a limitation in his game, he does not have the mindset of a forward. I don't believe in this middle half, you do. You think there is enough evidence, i don't. Watmough did try an ball play buy differently, he tried to push passes at or after the line. Paulo threw well before which makes ot ineffective in general.

You claim a lot, but I've said before reality is perception. You speak confidently and people believe you but i see someone who doesn't understand the game and over simplifies concepts. I definitely think there if a place for a middle half if he is also a good runner of the ball. It can create an additional focus for the defence to sorry about.

Someone like dymock out Jason smith would be an awesome middle half.

If matto stayed,he could've been groomed into it. Edwards would also suit the role.

Kelly's first game of the year was in round 10, which happens to be the first game Paulo missed. Now that doesn't mean Paulo was dropped because Kelly came in - there could certainly be some coincidence in there, and I'm sure there was, since they did play together on four occasions later in the season (in rounds 16, 20, 21 and 24, after injuries had torn us up). But even though it's not conclusive, this fact supports my argument more than yours. What I believe happened is that when Kelly came into the team, Arthur changed his gameplan, and picked his bench with a view to not needing a middle half at any stage of the game. Therefore Paulo missed out.

Its a limitation in his game, he does not have the mindset of a forward.

Which is why he wasn't used as one. Do you think Arthur doesn't know what he's doing?

Until round ten he played in every game Arthur ever coached in first grade, including 2012. He consistently played the same way without getting dropped, and was only finally removed from the team when Kelly replaced Sandow (and it was clear the latter wouldn't be here next year).

I understand you believe Paulo's release to the Sharks proves he was disobeying the coach's orders but if that was the case he would have been axed last year, instead of playing every game.

Personally, given he was re-signed so late last year, I thought Paulo would be a backup from round one. I was surprised he played so much first grade, especially early on.

Actually he was very effective last year, hitting the decoy runner when the defence cheated out to the half. He was behind only Norman for LBAs (my favourite!) He was less effective this year for whatever reason, probably due to the loss of Hayne and the inclusion of Watmough. Or maybe his shit just fell out of his showbag with Norman yelling at him.
