First move in regards to the Broncos is to get the Bombers into Brisbane. Two teams in the city will blunt some of the advantage the Broncos have. A third team shouldn't be too far down the track, either.
I reckon we'd have less than half of that. Pre-season training has already started FFS. It would be criminal if we still had a lot of cap space remaining, considering there was no guarantee of any quality players coming available, and no guarantee of signing any of them.
I reckon for 2016 we probably have $200k-$300k free, and we're intending on using it to upgrade a few of blokes on minimum contract (or less) once we decide on our top 17 for next year. We could also use it to front load contract extensions.
TPA's are absolutely impossible to police. Even if we didn't have a salary cap, some clubs would offer players extra money via wealthy patrons/businesses. It's never been a level playing field. It never will be. I reckon we should get rid of the salary cap altogether and just make it open-slather like it used to be.
i've been away a few days .... has hiku sorted his shit out yet?
Not willing to speculate a figure but yeh, I can't see us having $700K up our sleeve this close to kick off.
I know Hoppa was on something similar but we didn't offer to renew his contract for a reason after the Seward shemozzle probabaly because $700K would have put us over which suggests to me that we dont have it.

Agreed.
Hopefully the Bombers will be more of a success than the Crushers, though that shouldn't be hard.
IIRC we offered Hopoate about $500K. He rejected it. We then got rid of Seph Paul who would have been on at least $220K. Even if we are paying some of it say $100K, that still leaves us with about $620K. Gutherson would have cost about $250K. Which leaves us with still decent money for a replacement. The thing is I have heard from a good source within the club that we have enough for 2 more first grade standard quality backs.
One thing is for sure. Hopoate was severely over valued.

Maybe not even but a lot closer. I reckon we go into next season with 13 teams capable of winning the comp. You only have too look at the odds and most are given some hope.
Do you want it too go back too being able too pick the top 4 every year and having 3 teams who can win it? We have 16 teams who on there day can beat each other. I remember the days when a half strength Brisbane would win by 24.... Salary cap keeps teams honest. Comps more even then ever been! It works......
It's great that he has a new attitude this year but you honestly think that attitude was acceptable last year? Surely it is worth discussing, particularly when so many on here were saying he was bought for his leadership.
Spot on especially when you consider the coin he is on and the obvious lies he was then telling to secure his Parra contract to the club, coach and fans.
Like I said before, as much as it may pain most of you apologists, over 90% of what I say will be proven true or correct in the long term. And here is another one.
Hopefully, for Parra's sake, with his new and improved body, free from nagging injuries, his motivation will naturally improve by default due to his better physical condition.
You're kidding aren't you? 13 Premiership contenders??
Ask yourself, who was the last team to win the NRL Premiership who was paying more than $10 to win prior to the start of the season???
Now ask yourself, how many of your so-called 13 Premiership hopes are paying more than $10???

Cowboys this year where double figures along with Brisbane.....
As I said its the most even it has ever been. I said a chance too win it. Would I back Canberra to win it? No. Would I be surprised if they made finals? No
Same goes for Parra-Penrith-Dogs-Storm-Sharks who are all paying over 10s....I reckon all of them will start the season thinking they are a chance of taking out the title.
Tigers- Penrith where long odd when won it. I think cowboys here 12/1 this year. I know easts -souths-dogs where the favourites.
My point is its closer.
Both teams were always under $10 from the moment betting opened and more than $10 was never offered for either team throughout the season.
Show me the proof other wise
