Why not jyst play a Pacific Cup rather than inviting Pacific national teams ?

And if we're using the A League as a hypothetical model, then surely, there'd be no carry over of nicknames, logos or colours.

Every single team would have new colours with absolutely no links to the past.

Incorrect.

Perth Glory carried over from the NSL.

They need to develop talent. Really they should hold the pacific cup during the state of origin period. Gives that emerging talent and those who have made the grade some more international .

It can only be good for the game. The real question is will these clubs be having home games in there own countries which can only improve interest and thus more players to play the game

I think you can pick the boys/girls who did not do to well at school, for the hundredth time the pacific islands are 3rd world nations but somehow they are moving into some new NRL system.

Please stay in the somewhat real world, not fantasy league.

The only country with any hope would be PNG and that would be due to their playing numbers and support of the game. The value would be in seeing the kumuls one day challenging the big three nations and the value this would bring to the international game. Problem is it adds little to the NRL coffers so they won't be interested and the grant they would need would be in excess of the other NRL clubs due to their difficulties in raising the extra revenue needed to be in NRL. No chance anytime in next couple of decades.

Fiji are already going to join the NSW Cup, and the NSW Cup basically is "Reserve Grade - Southern Conference".

He didn't just mean first grade. He said being a part of an NRL system, and second tier is a part of the NRL system.

I could definitely see Fiji doing the same as the PNG Hunters in the QLD cup. It would be a great pathway for local Fijians to play Rugby League and also have a greater chance of being picked up by and NRL team. If the NSW cup teams play over in Fiji - it would only help the game grow over there.

Having either PNG or Fiji in the NRL though will never happen in the foreseeable future.

why not have a team in both perth and adelaide?

how successful are the storm? surely if they market the teams well, there's no reason why they couldn't be successful and create a proper national comp

Precisely. Every other sports league knows that having the 5 mainland capitals is key.

How the hell we can go SO LONG without 2 of them is mind-boggling.

the problem is the nrl will say there isn't enough talent for 18 nrl clubs. maybe 2 syd clubs should be relocated then. 1 to perth, and the other to radelaide...

Perth Rabbitohs perhaps?

What better team - they play over there every year - maybe they have been trying to build support for a full time move?

And the Adelaide Roosters - being away from intense media spotlight would be good for them.

if a couple of clubs relocate from syd, i think it would be clubs who aren't that strong financially
