Ready: Joel Thompson at training at WIN Stadium on Tuesday.
THE Charity Shield provided St George Illawarra with an early warning to avoid misfiring when the NRL season kicks off, Joel Thompson said.
Losing the annual clash with Souths, the Dragons hit back in New Zealand on Saturday, thumping New Zealand 46-10.
The Dragons lost their opening round game against Melbourne last year and round two to Wests.
But Thompson is determined not to make the same mistake again, against the Storm on Monday week.
“It’s a great test to see where we’re at for the start of the year” he said.
“We have to start strongly, last year we had two losses straight up, so it’s important to start well.”
The Dragons will play their final trial game against Central Queensland at Rockhampton on Saturday.
