Cleary would be a step backwards for Souths

Maguire on the other hand would be a great coach for the Warriors. His main weakness at Souths has been recruitment. At the Warriors recruitment would look after itself with their strong stream of U20s players coming through. Warriors will win a premiership under Maguire if he goes there

Agree.
Cleary has made the finals 5 times out of 10 seasons. He seems to always have the support behind the scenes (apart from his final months at Penrith), be interesting to see how he would handle all the difference factions at Souths.

Maguire would be great at warriors, he seems to do well with rookies and get the best out of his fringe first graders (2016 aside) would be a good fit for them

I think Madge was the one that sacked recruitment manager Mark Hughes and appointed Grant Jones, we've gone backwards ever since.

MCCARTHY: ‘SOUTHS WHINGERS SHOULD P**S OFF!’

Written by TONY ADAMS, May 7, 2016
SOUTH Sydney legend Bob McCarthy has a blunt message for Rabbitohs stars who believe they’re being pushed too hard by coach Michael Maguire: “P**s off and leave!”

Rumours are rife that Souths players believe Maguire is over-training the struggling Rabbitohs, who have now lost six of their last seven games. Currently in 12th place it doesn’t get any easier for the Rabbitohs who next face off against what will certainly be a determined and fired up Eels side next Friday night.

But an angry McCarthy says the players shouldn’t blame the coach if they can’t handle the pressure.

“It seems everyone is looking for excuses and if the talk is right that the players believe they’re being trained too hard, I’m at a loss,” McCarthy fumes.

“If anything, they need to harden up and train more intensely – maybe then they would get out of the the rut they’re in. To say it’s too much for them is looking for the soft option.

“If any of them feel like that, they should p**s off and leave because they have no place at South Sydney.”

McCarthy is hopeful the rumours of discontent in the ranks are just that: rumours.

“I handed out the jumpers before the Roosters game in round one and they were one big, happy family,” says the three-time grand final-winning star.

“But clearly something is wrong.”

I hear you may be signing Sam Anderson from Redcliffe, formally with the panthers.

Played the final 7 games of the 2014 season and has been in QLD cup since. Is in solid form and played today in the residents match.

Good young prop who has a similar game play to Matt Scott. Solid and good work ethic. Has been a form player in qld cup.

It would be a solid upgrade on Tyrell or Clark for that matter.

I'll let you know if I hear more.

I saw some of him in 2014 and I liked the look of him. He has size.

One of my clients works with the NRL and was within upper management of Sydney clubs in various capacities and mentioned that tigers had offered him an incentive salary for 2016 and $175 for 2017 but was rejected for another Sydney club. When I asked what club specifically he only said that Souths had offered a $180k and looked to be all but sealed for 2017.

An interesting comment he also made was that he's looking to reunite with Ivan Cleary for 2017. Is it possible that he may be coaching in some capacity at the Rabbitohs? I've heard the rumour that Cleary had been ousted from Penrith as he was in very deep discussions with a Sydney club, believed to be the Rabbitohs for 2017.

I don't want Cleary.

We have to keep Madge. He's been very successful for us and you can't get rid of him for a tough season. You can't always win.

Dogmatix you've never said a truer word. This is the best post line on our forum this year.

You say "Cleary would be a step backwards for Souths".

This is truth telling at its absolute best.

Wake up Southsport!!!!!! First sign of trouble and all this Cleary talk. I'm frustrated with it.

Bravo McCarthy.

Sorry Dogmatix but what Bob has said is now the best thing and brilliant faultless truth telling I've read this season.

I'm fired up now.

No doubt the players have to train hard. Is it possible though they are training too hard, and that could mean they are buggered come game day, and could that also increase the chance of injuries? It's hard for any of us to know how hard they are training. Richo has some important decisions to make. Lets hope he makes good choices.

I have no idea about our training because i'm not a part of the team, but you are 100% correct. If the coach trains his team so hard during the week that they are down on energy for the weekend, this is a real problem. Its not a necessarily a case of whinging or being lazy. Its the same reason swimmers taper off before a meet. No idea where our situation is but saying, "Stop being lazy" or "Get a real job", is a very short minded outlook on the situation.

these days they got it too well they dont train hard you have to be kidding me, even when they go thru their many drills at redfern or erko its all soft play so they dont cause injury.and ive seen over 6 decades of it.........our current mob of forwards like tyrrell.clark, grevs, brown, musgrove are a shadow on our 89 team and a year or two prior they would all get smashed if they came up against the likes of mario, roberts, davo, carroll and tunksy and the rampling brothers and co only sam and the twins could cope.wow we had very good past forwards our current pack is soft as allowrie melted butter.and if you dont think so you know nothing about souths past forward packs i could of added johnstone and andrews and chisolm and boyle but the boys above were in deed feared.............
