Draw is good. Underwhelmed by doubleheaders and some of the stadium choices. AAMI over Etihad and Mt Smart over Eden park shows a lack of ambition.

No final at all in Sydney, Kangaroos Vs England in a city that overall doesn't even like the sport. What a mess.

I would not want to be one of the teams playing in the first Quarter Final. Who in their right mind would schedule a game in Darwin in November? The weather will be atrociously hot and wet as it is right in the middle of the tropical wet season.

Yeah, Sydney gets 2 pool games -

  1. England v Lebanon on 4 November 2017; and
  2. Australia v Lebanon on 11 November 2017.
Hardly gonna pack 'em in at the SFS for either of those games.

Tournament Pools

With 11 teams already confirmed, the final three teams will come from the European Qualifying Tournament to be played in October and November this year.

The pool structure reflects that of the successful 2013 Tournament. The composition of the pools for RLWC2017 were shaped by a number of considerations, including the final placings from the 2013 World Cup and current world rankings

Pool A: Australia, England, France, Lebanon
Pool B: New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, Tonga
Pool C: Papua New Guinea, European Qualifier 1, European Qualifier 2
Pool D: Fiji, USA, European Qualifier 3

AAMI over Etihad is massively disappointing. Thats terrible. I honestly think they could have sold Etihad out for Australia vs England. The Victorians love an event and the Pommies would come to Melbourne for this game. If they could make any game between this and the Semis, this would be it. Incredibly sad.

0/10. Possibly the worst stadium allocation of any event ever scheduled in history. Rugby League showcasing itself to the world as the dumb backwater sport it truly is.

Where to start...

The Sydney fiasco. Sorry, blaming the politicians doesn't cut it. Playing 2 pool games at a big stadium while taking a quarter final to a likely-flooded cow paddock in Darwin is insane. No amount of money from the NT can make Darwin a better option for a finals game. Reeks of cutting off our nose to spite the face.
One of the Lebanon games at least should be at Penrith, and Sydney should have a semi final.

Double headers in Cairns, Townsville, and Perth.
3 games that could have been taken to any of Gold Coast, Wollongong, Newcastle, Penrith, Adelaide.
Double headers in a World Cup are totally amateurish.

3 games in Canberra, Cairns, Townsville.
Too many games in the same locations while a heap of heartland areas miss out.

Small stadiums for big games, ie. Darwin, AAMI and Mt Smart for finals.
Reeks of a lack of ambition. WC finals should be showpieces of the game. If we have such low confidence in our biggest cities we shouldn't bother to be honest.

On a side note, does anyone have any idea which European qualifier will be going into which pool?

Logic dictates that the Euro qualifiers from group A would be designated EQ1, and group B being EQ2 with the runner up play off winner being EQ3. But that would mean that both the group winners would be put in the same pool with PNG. They're essentially being fed to the Kumuls by playing at Port Moresby.

Yeah that's another thing.
I'm not a huge fan of split hosting, especially between 3 countries.
PNG have a massive home town advantage with the crowds and tropical weather. Hardly fair on the visitors.

Just noticed they have changed the quarter finals structures from RLWC13.

Winner of Pool A & B play the 3rd placed finishers of those groups and not the winners of Pools C&D anymore.

Holy shit I just realised that the Darwin Quarter final will have the winner of pool A which will likely be Australia. While the Melbourne quarter final will have 2nd place of group B (Samoa, Tonga or Scotland) up against the winner of group D (likely PNG)

f**kING SWITCH IT AROUND!!

f**k me, that Darwin Quarter final really should be in Perth. The draw and pools are mostly fine. But the stadium allocation is all sorts of f**ked up.

The RLWC website draw says Allocation of QF games to host cities will occur after the Pool games.

NRL.com has them allocated.

The winner of the opening Australia vs England match will have the easier run to the final. As usual. Which is fine.

Just off my quick predictions (assuming Australia win that opening game), England would be travelling from Melbourne to Sydney to Perth to Wellington (Q3) to Auckland (S2) and then to Brisbane should they make the final. That is alot of travelling.

Any word on when ticketsgo on sale yet?

And as others have said the draw and pools are fine but the stadium allocation is f**king ridiculous.

Totally agree!

And a Q/F in Darwin is a total joke !!!!
