I doubt any of Phelps races where likely to come down to split seconds let alone finger tips, whereas history shows that the 100 usually comes down to a finger tip. Additionally I doubt Phelps would have risked the relays if he only had one shot at gold. Its just totally different circumstances.
McEvoy would be looking at a guy like Magnussen and the hang dog expression he gets around with these day and he would be fully aware that he may only get one shot at this - especially with an 18 year old countryman already biting at his heels.
He won the 100 fly by 0.01. I don't think McEvoy medals let alone wins. Just my opinion

I see...
My prediction is silver for the youngster and fourth for McEvoy.
Watch the 2008 100m fly final on youtube. Alot of controversy surrounding it. Omega have even stated that the Serbian touched the wall first but not with enough force to register the touch pad.

Actually I remember that now you mention it.
Cant believe his 'big' olympics was actually 8 years ago.

I remember that and agree that Phelps actually came second in that race.

Far too elaborate for it to be fixed. But I'm sure this scenario has happened a few times in swimming as it requires touch technology unlike sprinting.

Murphy looked so easy in that 200 back, he has 2.5 seconds in him easily. Larkin had better swim the race of his life in the final if he has any chance of beating him.

Resting McEvoy last night clearly worked.

Chalmers seems to have the Thorpey style oomph and grit when it matters about him.

That's what it takes to be a champion.
