fifita was the best player on the park by some way. i thought jack bird was the next best. they played lewis on the wing for most of the second half and went quite a few sets without touching the footy

For mine it would be between Maloney, Fafita or Ennis, with probably Maloney being the front runner.

Dunno, Ennis did his best in a 10' stretch in the second half to f**kin lose the game. Poor option after poor option leading to nothing. It took a great NFL defensive lineman move from Fifita to win it.

Lewis looked dangerous each time he got the ball. Worthy winner

Maloney for me.

Did Cam Smith really make 71 tackles??

Flanno got his big men to target him. It wasn't about easy metres but more about tiring him out. It worked to an extent.

I'd need to watch the game again but Melbourne seemed to go to their left side via Green and Blair every 2 or 3 times to every 1 time they'd go to their right side of Cronk and Chambers. Would have to watch it again to work out if it was a Bellamy strategy or Cronulla putting pressure on Cronk and closing options on the storm right. The few times Melbourne did go right was when they were at their most dangerous.

Whether you agree he was best or not, it was at least refreshing to see them give it to a player they thought was the best unlike in 2014/15 and at least he was from the winning side.

Well maybe 30 and 41 flops.
This is so true. The tackle counts these days are so inaccurate. How do 3 people each receive 1 tackle on their tally for tackling 1 player? Plus, as correctly mentioned by macnaz, there are so many flops or times when a player merely runs in & puts his hands on a player after his progress has been stopped. I pay very little attention to the tackle counts listed for players. At least in the NFL they record sacks by halves where applicable.

It's similar to run metres where uncontested metres from kickoffs & dropouts are used by players, especially props to boost their stats. Plus fullbacks & wingers have kick returns that inflate their numbers. I'd like to see them broken down to give a more realistic idea of a player's work rate when people talk about what a big game someone has. I know various websites do this, but too often people just look at the raw data.

Fifita's running sideways looked like a deliberate tactic. And it was effective.

I think Blake green is going to have nightmares about Fifita for a long time.

How is the winner decided? In AFL about 5 people give a 3 - 2 and 1 and it usually comes out with a fair result but the CC is often controversial, Thurstom last year was beyond a joke, he even admits he had a off game.

It's a panel of former players and commentators on the game. 3 2 1 system. They don't always get it right

That penalty on the 5th that led to the Fifita try by Welch was probably the play of the game.

Was the dumbest grub move in GF history?

It's old dinosaurs like Fulton and McCarthy I believe?

In 2013 they were ultra salty and gave it to DCE because of their Roosters hate.

Maloney was the stand out in that game, followed by Moa and SBW.

Surely the most farcical CCM winner ever. At least Thurston was on the winning team even if he was average.

Fifita was immense, produced the kind of game he should be churning out at SOO level. Shit human and dumb as f*ck but he was the most influential one out there. Understand the politics that stopped him from getting the medal, but he was the real best on field last night

In 2013 they had a WC squad to pick the day after the game....and were not picking Maloney, they'd look pretty stupid if they gave him the medal, left him out of the squad and lost the WC, so they just gave it to DCE. But that being said the award has been purely political for over a decade.

Maloney would have been my vote last night (and also in 2013), I am fine with Lewis getting it though.
