Shared a house with an evangelical vegan once... but he was happy to ignore his veganism to drink beer, and to wear leather shoes etc.

Hypocrit wankers, if you ask me.

I don't give a shit if you are vegan or paleo or go to church 7 days a week. Just don't tell all about it. I could not care less. The most annoying part of any fanatic is the preaching and attempting conversion.

Find out what works for you.
Yep, that sums it up.

Lambretta, you may want to update your knowledge of the dairy industry. It ain't as pleasant as you imagine & a lot of mother cows lose their young (many slaughtered) just so they can remain in a state of producing milk (an unnatural length of time).

True - but most of their young are raised for meat aren't they?
So they're going to die anyway

i'm not trying to be a smartarse or anything, but if you eat sea food, doesn't that mean you're not really a vegetarian?
what about sea cucumbers?

are they classified as fish or vegetables?

The issue is cows must calve to produce milk. Just for one instance give a cow credit for being a mother & all the instincts that go with that etc. Then imagine the constant truama of being separated from the calf over & over. Imagine your missus being pregnant all the time during the productive part of her life & the children just disappearing.

I had a rescue goat (similar experience) hide her new born thinking it would be taken away. It took a long time to realise that would be one kid she wouldn't lose.

It would be nice for meat eaters to recognise the mass system of meat production is essentially one of untold misery for many species of animal not to mention it is also equated with many side effects to humans. Hello....cancers for example.

They are only called cucumbers because they look like them. They are definitely animals.
are you sure though? have you ever eaten one to confirm?

from a naming convention, it isn't clear..

stick insects look like sticks, but have the 'insect' bit at the end.. so if it is an animal, shouldn't it be called cucumber fish?

whereas, we have weed on land, and seaweed in the ocean.. as well as snakes on land and sea snakes in the ocean.. so the word 'sea' determines where it is, with the secondary part of the name determining what it is..

Yep - it's fairly shite. Cows are really intuitive and pick up on distress signals easily (it's what makes them jumpy). Imagine what they go through in the abattoir. They know they're going to be killed long before it happens.

TBH - I don't eat beef very often as it doesn't agree with me. I can't digest it properly. I like the taste, but the downside outweighs the upside.

But yes, I am a meat eater and I am under no illusions about how the industry operates. I grew up in the Country and my mother was in a relationship with a farmer for years. Plus I worked on farms as a kid.

Maybe one day I'll become vegetarian. But vegan? Nah.

Sea cucumbers are echinoderms from the class Holothuroidea. They are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body containing a single, branched gonad. Sea cucumbers are found on the sea floor worldwide. Wikipedia

So.......Sea cucumbers are just tall versions of me if I enjoyed sunbaking

then your position really holds no weight..

come back once you've eaten one and let me know.

You're looking at this wrong Muzby
Instead of buying your weekly dildo from the supermarket, go swimming for a sea cucumber
If it eats you out before giving you one, then animal

I'm sure I remember the guys on Jackass masturbating them, complete with some sort of white substance that they shoot as a defensive mechanism.

The older I get the more I'm sympathetic to the vegan moral position but I don't think I could ever give up eating delicious animals

Approximately 6 years on a vegan diet, 10+ years without meat.

I stopped eating meat after I worked in an abattoir as a teenager, that shit is f**ked up.

Militant vegans annoy me and most probably do more harm than good with their approach, there are a lot of level headed vegans who aren't like the stereotypes.

Meat is awesome and delicious and I'll never give it up.

That said, I wish we could produce it in a more sustainable way, I abhor the mass production methods that result in animals living in squalor and on top of each other in order to fill a spot on our plates.

Earthlings is a pretty good film, people should watch it, but it's pretty f**ked up and could possibly put you off meat altogether.

I had a vegan girlfriend once. She was sick all the time. All. The. Time.

I am/was not a big fan of the way meat is harvested for the usual reasons already listed here and ate about an 80% veggie diet so I gave being a full vegan a go to prove to her that her diet was making her sick. Guess what? I got sick. Hair fell out, fingernails got weak, felt like shit. Sick.

AND I GOT FAT! All that tofu replacement "meat" is fatty as hell.

On top of that it's a shit existence. Waiters will hate you. Everything will disappoint you and you will piss off your friends and family.

I never get sick. Avoiding meat won't instantly make your diet healthy, you still need to make conscious decisions to make sure you're getting the nutrition you need.

Maybe 5 years ago what you said at the end would have had some truth but it's a lot more mainstream now and extremely easy for vegans eating out.
