My 2016 NSW Origin Team

Not so sure Daley will dump Tamou either, he needs a few strong performances though. Cartwright not quite there yet in my view. Peachey would be an inspired selection and could seriously trouble Queensland late in both halves.

You'd have to see Pearce play in the 9 at club level to consider him I think. I know Moylan was played out of position last year and seems likely to be again, but he plays 5/8 in possession every game. His abilities as a ball player are well known. Pearce should never get near the captaincy either for reasons that are well documented. Aaron Woods or Moylan as captain, Moylan has the edge I'd suggest.

Finally I would resist the temptation to shoehorn Hayne into the side anywhere he will fit, unless his form warrants it. If we're picking a side on 2009-2010 form, well maybe we should bring Sowie out of retirement.

Moylan should be the 6 no questions asked but not captain, not yet atleast.

I think Tamou's rep days are behind him, I'd say he's fallen behind the pecking order quite a bit: Woods, Fifita, Klemmer, Boyd and even Paulo.

Yeah Cartwright is a bit off because of his defence and if Peachey was picked I wouldn't have any problem with that.

Mitch Piss shouldn't go anywhere near an origin jersey again, Peter Wallace would be a much better pick for the hooking role.

The advantage Pearce has over Wal is age. We don't need another stop gap hooker that only has a year or 2 left. I honestly think Pearce could make the transition in the same fashion Wallace has.

I get that @TheFrog you worship the ground Moylan walks on. But are you seriously suggesting he is named captain after one series where he had one good game?

Laurie Daley does have rocks in his head but I can't see him going that far. It will be Cordner or Woods.

You just know that nsw selectors will pick something like this

Moylan
Dugan
Fergo
Hayne/ Jennings
Tedesco/ Hayne
Maloney
Pearce (vc)
Woods
Peats
Tamou
Jackson
Cordner (c)
Frizell

Res: J Bird, Fifita, Merrin, Klemmer,

EDIT forgot abut Jennings. They will plonk him in again and push Hayne to the wing at the cost of Tedesco.

Basically all the backs playing out of position. Sounds about right for nsw selectors

Idgaf how long he has left as long as it keeps that loser Mitch Piss out of the team.

Not obsessed, just the best option we have who isn't Farah, who I am sick to death of and whose ego is more of a hindrance than a help. Peats is a better player than you give him credit for.

You are right in saying Wobbie should be no where near the team. But Peats isnt up to it imo. No love for Pearce @ 9?

Mitchell Pearce at hooker for NSW in 2017?! Move a specialist halfback to a position he as never played at all at first grade level (if ever at any level) in the most pressure packed series of games?! That has to be the most daft idea I've heard. Pearce is a decent tackler, but he does not defend in the centre of the field at the Roosters, and defending the middle of the field is where a hooker typically lines up.

It is about as smart an idea as saying Josh Dugan is a rep calibre centre (which he most definitely is not).

It seems entirely possible, as he has considerably greater experience as a club captain, and especially as a winning captain, than either of those you've mentioned.

Being a captain means being highly regarded by the playing group in which team you play for. I highly doubt Moylan would be considered "highly respected" in a team he's only played 3 games in.

In order it'd probably go Maloney, Woods then Cordner

Take the game 3 side from last year. Merrin in for Gallen, Hayne in for Mansour. Cordner will come back in but not sure who they will drop for him. That'll be just about it I'd suggest. They should look at Peachey for the bench but I have my doubts given past NSW selections.

Been done before. Joey played hooker multiple times at origin level

Look, it wouldnt be my first choice but its certainly worth considering

I reckon you're on your lonesome in wanting to retain Jennings. He is done.

I think we will see Sterlos influence a bit this year, Laurie knows he is on very thin ice and they out sterlo there for a reason. So with that in mind I doubt Dugan makes the team as anywhere other than FB. The halves will be Maloney and Moylan, Sterlo loves both these players and always raves about them. Merrin will get back in the side. Hayne and Tedesco will both be in the side and if Junior Paulo is playing well he well get in the team also.

Joey did it, Craig Gower did it around that period also. Our only specialist options are Peats and Farah, not a lot of choice there if they are injured or out of form then we might have to try something unusual.

hhmm.

This was Sterlo's team he picked last year. i distinctly remembering him picking Dugan on the wing. When it was announced that he would have a hand in team selection, i was not impressed. As you can see its not much different to the team I said would be picked.

1. Matt Moylan, 2 Josh Dugan, 3 Jack Bird, 4 Michael Jennings, 5 Blake Ferguson, 6 James Maloney, 7 Mitchell Pearce, 8 Aaron Woods, 9 Michael Ennis, 10 James Tamou, 11 Boyd Cordner, 12 Josh Jackson, 13 Beau Scott. Interchange: 14 Trent Merrin, 15 Bryce Cartwright, 16 David Klemmer, 17 Andrew Fifita.

If Sterlo is influencing - pearce will be there. so will jennings probably and any other parra player he can get in.

You're probably right. He will get picked.

He was the worst player of our backline and did nothing for the vast majority of the game. But then manages to score and "justify" his selection. A typical Jennings performance.

At his best form, Michael Jennings is one of the best centres in the competition. Last year his form dipped markedly as he was dragged down (along with a lot of Parra players) by the stuff going on off-field. If he starts the year showing some form, I'd consider him for Origin, but that is the important thing, showing some form.
