NRL player Michael Chee Kam is one of two men charged with assaulting an Uber driver at Bondi Beach over the weekend.

Chee Kam, along with an 18-year-old-man, allegedly assaulted a 26-year-old Uber driver on Campbell Parade in Bondi around 10.30pm on Saturday December 30.

It is alleged the two men punched the driver repeatedly through the car window.

Local police in the area were flagged down after the incident and a short time later a taxi containing Chee Kam and the 18-year-old was stopped.

Both men were arrested at the scene and served with a Field Court Attendance Notice for common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

9News Sports Reporter Danny Weidler has confirmed the NRL is aware of the matter.

They are expected to appear at Waverley Local court on February 5, 2019.

Roosters have been quiet this off season, though I guess we'll get our incident soon. probably something like naked Jake Friend running down street, shooting at plumber or something extraordinary like that

The code needs to look at everything. The way the coaches talk for example and the way the team leaders talk. Too many Boyd Cordner's, James Maloney's and Brad Arthur's.

What a pair of dickheads. Imagine just doing your job only to be assaulted by a pair of dickheads. Do players have a code of conduct or understand that they are public figures who will always be found out whenever they do something illegal?

I'm sure there is more to the story but it is still disappointing. I'm sure the Tigers will not just let it slide or sweep it under the carpet.

Wests Tigers player Michael Chee Kam has been charged with assaulting an Uber driver through the car window during a night out in Bondi Beach.

Chee Kam, 26, and an 18-year-old man believed to be a relative were allegedly standing on Campbell Pde at around 10.30pm on December 30, when the rideshare driver beeped at them in an attempt to get them to move.

Police will allege the men repeatedly punched the driver through his open, driver’s side window.

Passing police were flagged down and a short time later a taxi containing the two men was stopped.

The men were arrested and both served with a Field Court Attendance Notice for the offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

They are expected to appear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 5 February 2019.

Chee Kam, considered a versatile back rower, has played 54 games for Wests and also represented Samoa.

He is contracted to the club until the end of the 2019 season.

An NRL spokesman said the league’s Integrity Unit was aware of the matter but as there were charges involved “it wouldn’t be appropriate to comment further”.

Horrible situation for the Tigers.

If found guilty they have no other choice but to sack him, leaving the mighty Tigers team without their superstar international representative second rower.

Is there a dumber cohort of professional athletes anywhere else in the world?

It's getting to be f**king embarrassing being an advocate of this game

Shhhhhh! Its just a societal problem!!!!

/sarcasm

The NRL need to overhaul their policies on incidents like this. Until they permanently kick players out of the game nothing will change.
