Rumours and Stuff

I know someone said that Salmon said he'd be training at centre and 6, but I wonder if he'd be looked at as an edge forward. He should be about 100kg by next season, has speed and some ballplaying. And if we really do have Jenko for another couple of years then Salmon doesn't really have a spot anyway.

Yep, and another important factor is we aren’t desperate to fill any position/sign players.

Like yes we wouId like a quality edge to replace Manu, but we aren’t desperate as we do have options within the squad to replace him. Yes they may not be as good as we want but it gives us time to find the right player at the right price.

We can just sit back and wait. We already have got Blake / RCG doing this (and they pretty high quality signings)

Sure. But if we want to give the title a shake I reckon we need to replace Alvaro and Taka in our top 17 with perhaps a Crighton and Fifita.

We may have an ave up sleeve if Stefano or Kafusi have big off seasons.

Off course we do, and that’s the whole point. As we have a top 8 squad as it is, with all positions covered, we can be patient in those signings to take us to serious contenders. We don’t need to be stupid and desperate!

Without Mau I reckon we are borderline top 8.

The recruitment of RCG off sets the loss of Manu. Yes we are weaker out wide from the loss of Manu, but stronger in the middle.

Also the middle normally determines how much room the edges have.

Additionally the Manu edge now has Blake there. He has had bugger all time to build any combos and he / Ferguson have a fair of improvement in them.

Apart from a small amount of FG games out of necessity or perhaps to "keep them happy" I reckon both Oregon and Stefano are destined to be playing in NSW Cup for most of 2020 and will become regular FG'ers in 2021.

As much as we fans would like it, not every young kid is a Haas or David Fifita and can step into FG in the pigs and stay there. Brisbane did this and it worked for them, but they were pretty desperate for some forwards going into 2019 and needed to draw into their youth pool to fill spots. Lucky for them it came off because once they filled their forward pack with their experienced players like Gillett, Glenn and Lodge, threw in TPJ and Ofahengaue, they were left with only 18 and 19 year old's in their squad to select from.

We haven't been in the same position and we won't be next year either.
Only one of our contracted forwards for 2020 has less than 40 games experience (Marata has 39 and Lane is next with 73) and yet our average age for our 2020 forwards is only 26 years old, with Taka the only one over 27.
I am not counting Ray Stone as he isn't officially signed yet.

True. I'd go a 2nd rower then keep 500k spare. By rnd 10 players will become available and you are able to pick up the rest of the seasons contract for half as starts in November. You can then front load it and keep the price down for the following 2-3 yrs.
Example.
Let's say Blake was on 600k. Get him for last 10 games for 500k which front loads 100k for seasons 2 and 3 so costs 500k not 600k.
It is smart cap management.

Disagree. Mau offered a shitload more than RCG does. I like the RCG signing but the 30-40 mins he will play does not offset what Mau brings.

Manu had most fantasy points of all our players.
RCGs form was that of an overpaid bum and why Panthers punted him. We are just hoping he produces his early 2018 form

There forwards where smoked in last 2 finals appearances when they had to step up for big games.

**In your opinion**

RCG is a huge very mobile prop who was "all-everything" 12 months ago. New coach didn't like how much he was being paid, but he is an upgrade over Mau on talent. Yes, different positions, but middle forwards have been an area of need for us!!

I have to agree.
While it is important to have edge forwards who can break the line, run the angles, complete effective and accurate passes in a back line movement, and defend strongly, the actual work starts in the middle with the middle forwards and how they run/hit it up. If they do their job correctly, they have already brung the wider defence in a little tighter, in turn creating the space needed for the edge back rowers and centres.
