Whether that is feasible depends what money he's on. Someone mentioned $450k, I don't believe that for one second, I'd expect closer to half that especially for five years. But if it is correct, it's an awful lot of cap to have sitting in reserve grade.Part of Whare's deal was to mentor the Islander kids. Assuming lower grades are back he could do that.

James Hooper saying that Staines manager wants $2m for 4 years. That’s just silly.
Something around 900k for 3 years might be reasonable.

It's overs for sure, but if I'm the Dogs / Titans / Cowboys I honestly think I'm close to taking the punt. $500k a year likely isn't going to completely harpoon your cap management if it doesn't quite work out.
It’s a big call when you haven’t seen him play fullback at FG level.
Cowboys don’t need him, though. They’ve got a potential star of their own at fullback. Will be dogs or tigers I think.

That young half who debuted against us(and scored under the posts) looks to another potential star for them imo he was super impressive. I dont see the cows coming after Staines, they have spent big money on Holmes, will need to spend big money to retain the hammer and they bought Marsters also this offseason.
Its the dogs who look desperate enough and have the cap to take a risk like that and maybe the tigers.
Hes worth a punt for a struggling club for sure imo, I wouldnt mind the panthers paying a little overs to keep him.
Locking him into a four year deal might not be the best move for him though, 500k is overs now but in two years he might easily demand a lot more if he kicks on from what he has shown so far.
$500k isn't overs based on his first 2 games and what Ponga managed to demand at the same point in his career.
Ponga got $650k after 2 games. I thought Knights were insane. By the end of that first season he looked like a bargain.
Now obviously Staines might not perform like that. But based on his first 2 games his debut was more impressive than Ponga and a $500k gamble seems pretty small for a desperate club to be honest.
We likely cant go close to matching that. Unfortunately. But there are a few average fullbacks running around and plenty of duds on a hell of a lot more than $500k.
