What if the NRL had the 10 NSW clubs, plus Canberra, play each other over the first 10 rounds and the 3 Queensland clubs, possibly 4 if Bris 2 is introduced, play each other home and away over 6 rounds (6 rounds if 4 teams), then have the highest ranked QLD and NSW team play each other at Lang Park on a Sunday night?
Each of the 3 Queensland team plays 4 games with 2 byes, where the team with the bye plays Melbourne or Warriors. If Bris 2 is added, Queensland teams they can play 6 games each over 6 rounds without byes. Add Bris 3 and you have 8 games over 10 rounds with 2 byes.
The NRL 9s could be played on the Friday and Saturday at the same venue. For a whole week the entire 16 clubs would be in Brisbane to have a Festival of RL. It would be a kick in the teeth for AwFuL and add another marquee event to the RL season. That way both Sydney and Brisbane get a marquee event to draw tourists from interstate, the broadcasters will have another ratings winner that will bring money into the game, and AwFuL is out of mind and sight for an entire week.
The ARLC Chairman would be there to award the trophy to the victorious team. The highest ranked teams from the Queensland and NSW Cups could play in the curtain raiser to the Chairman's Trophy.
