Plenty of other high profile centres weren't great defenders too. Mark Gasnier comes to mind. He really only improved after his stint with French Rugby.
Its not the loss but the manner of the loss that worries me. How we were completely outplayed in nearly every aspect of the game and how easily they pulled our defence apart even when they were down a man. How we were completely unable to create space when they were down a player. If none of that worries you then you must be one of BA's assistants.
What gives you the impression that I'm a recruitment officer with Parra? All I'm pointing out is where I think our problem is, same as I pointed out a few years back that we needed bigger quality forwards. Eventually BA went in that direction so now I point out other deficiencies. Maybe it takes a few years before BA listens to me.
Yes, outside centre is a difficult defensive role. Probably explains the improvement upon return.

I didn't see it as us being unable, we just weren't willing to do what was required, which was grind them down over 80 minutes. A team like ours shouldn't be changing their game plan just because the opposition is down to 12 men. I'm sure Arthur's didn't tell them to.

Unless we can develop (and retain) a production line of cheap first graders we're always going to have deficiencies ffs merkin. Fixing squad deficiencies costs cap space, and it is a limited resource. When our existing top half dozen paid players came off contract we were able to rejig the cap and buy Paulo and RCG. We couldn't sign them without first making space in the cap. That can take multiple years. Guys like Matagi and Alvaro would've been on a quarter of what their replacements are getting.
