Looking at these Matterson had the ball player covered and Arthurs come in which forced Blake to leave his man and come in.Arthurs fault on both imo.

I agree.

And that's what I mean regarding Dylan Brown - say what you want about his lack of attacking skill at the moment, but he is a great defender.

I like the look of Jake Arthur, but he was exposed by Manly.

I'm happy to give him time - he's only 18 -, but we have really missed Brown, imo.

I think Manly had such a huge overlap on the first one that they would've had to f**k up massively not to score. Whoever didn't do their job on that play, it happened much further infield. I'm tipping middle forwards not working hard enough, and possibly a lack of communication that they needed to be more urgent pushing right.

I hear we are not looking at any players with any $$ profile. Penisini is the next cab off the rank, apparently.

The coaching staff are obviously happy with the squad and/or we have no cap space after we sign up matto and Moses. So we may be a slower team next year

He's got time to learn though. Very few young centres are great in defense. Brett Mullins was awful in defense at centre for some time, but he learnt.

I've no doubt he can learn.

But I suppose the question is:

Given our preference to attack left, do we replace Blake with an 18-year old who is a poor defender, and risk ruining his development?

The other side of the coin is that perhaps Penisini can add some danger to our right side attack.

But like I said - we hardly go right any more...

I agree with Pou that our right edge defence will be better with Dylan Brown back.

Blake's fault was it?

First try:

Blake was forced to come in to cover Keppie, leaving a 3-on-1 outside him. Should he have let Keppie stroll through on his inside shoulder?

Second try:

We had enough numbers on the inside to cover Schuster and Lawton ffs. If Blake had put himself in front of the lead runner, Schuster would've passed out the back for the 3-on-1 again. At least if Arthur's had gotten his body in front of Lawton we had a better chance of stopping a 3-on-2.

In both cases you'll note the huge gap between the furthest middle defender still involved in the play (Nathan Brown) and those middles who took the opportunity to have a breather. If the middles had pushed harder to start with, the edge defenders would have been able to adjust earlier and we wouldn't have been faced with such an overlap.

The final try was just an arsey bounce. We had plenty of cover back there to clean it up.
Glad someone pointed it out . Waqa has copped an absolute pasting (especially the last week) and while I do agree he and Fergo have massive communication issues , the 98% of 'fans' shredding him the last week have no idea. Arthur Jnr was a massive liability out there. His 4 game NSW Cup career and physical limitations didn't have him ready for NRL yet. Who'd have thought.
