Was fantastic to have our Rabbitohs back out there for the first time of 2022 last week but it's now time to shift our focus to the one we really look forward to, the one we really wait for, the unofficial start to the Season. That's right, it's Charity Shield week!!! You don't need me to tell you what this game means to both sides. We're going up against a traditional rival in the Dragons, a rivalry that is over 100 years old now and it's not just another trial, this game means a lot. We're competing for a bit of silverware up there in Mudgee on Saturday so it certainly has some feeling in it.

I'm sure the Dragons will trot out their strongest possible line up for this one and in my opinion, they're looking a bit stronger than last year, perhaps even the strongest they've looked in years. Therefore, we're going to need to be on our game. It's a trial, so they'll be a bit rusty like us but they now have some genuine strike in their team with the likes of Hunt, Sloan and Sullivan with a big forward pack lead by Josh McGuire. I think containing that forward pack is really the key. It's hard to know what to expect from St George Illawarra because it is a trial but I just get the feeling that their days of massively underperforming are over in 2022 so I think we're in for a tough game.

I'm sure our boys will be ready and raring to go come Saturday as well. it's the Charity Shield and we are gunning for our tenth retainment of the Shield in a row so that's extra motivation to get up for this one. I'm expecting us to name the strongest possible line up we can which is going to be great! Can't wait to see our big stars on show like Cody, Trell, Cookie and Tom. I don't think Cam will be playing as he's still recovering with that shoulder. So yea, it's gonna be great to have the regular side back on the park and see what we're looking like, see what we've been working on over the summer. Also looking forward to seeing how the likes of Ilias and Taaffe go, will watch Lachie in particular with great interest, and we have a battle on our hands for left centre so I can't wait to see how Jaxson and Josiah go. Our first real hit out!! Hope the boys rip in.

Really looking forward to this one because as I said, it's a big game and means a lot! I'm sure the boys will really enjoy that week up there in Mudgee too. Can we win our 10th in a row?? We'll have to wait and see. Saturday can't come soon enough!!!!

You are entitled to your opinion.

Most, if not all of us in here feel the same way about JWH.

Rabbitohs Team List For Charity Shield: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2022/02/22/rabbitohs-team-list-for-charity-shield/

Yoohoo what a strong line up!! Very happy with it!! Pretty much as predicted with the odd surprise in there. Basically as full strength as we can minus a few players. It's a shame Trell isn't gonna be there but JD has said that'd happen to get more training in him. Good to see Hame in the starting line up, it shows how far up the pecking order he has come and I reckon he'll get a spot on the bench once we're 100% full strength. Jai named in the second row as predicted as is Jaxson at left centre. Otherwise the rest is basically unchanged from 2021 or as we expected.

A few of note that are unexpectedly not named are Shaq Mitchell (thought he was guaranteed to get a run this weekend with the first string side so it's a shame to see he won't), Knighty (not sure why), and Pete (probably because of his head knock).

Loving this team list and man, oh man, it just makes me itching for Saturday night!!!

Hey callmack, now that Mitchell is free to play in Rd #2 there is some speculation that he may trot out for the shield.

Sam Burgess did not have any malice toward James Graham in the 2014 GF after Graham deliberately smashed his head into Sam's boat leading to several months of surgical repair. Graham then repeated the dose in the closing stages of the match on David Tyrell and knocked him out. What do you have to say about that? It was deliberately using your head as a weapon. And what did you say after Napa did exactly the same to Korbin Sims at Brisbane, Sims spent weeks in hospital with a fractured jaw after Easts' Napa smashed his head into his face? Mitchell conversely did not do this. Manu was falling and Mitchell charged in. Careless yes but not deliberate. And most likely cost the squad a great GF Victory, a very heavy toll to pay considering the lads' efforts. Manu he is joking. Did Sam Burgess run up to James Graham in that GF and harass him? Did Burgess carry on? No. Sam played a full 80 minutes with facial fractures and blood streaming out. Even Greg Inglis repeatedly asked him to go off but Sam refused, by contrast, Manu he left the park immediately and let everyone know about it.

I don't wish to put the young guy down but Dean Hawkins is a slug of a player. He has no dash, no spark in attack. Coaches appear to like him but realistically he offers very little to the squad. Demetriou best hope that Ilias is OK because if we play Hawkins @ 7 its goodbye, a wasted year.

There's differing opinions on Hawkins, some think he's OK but others don't.

Whether Latrell deliberately hit Manu in the head I don't know but whenever a player races in at that speed and has a spectacular collision it is likely to incur the wrath of the judiciary, that's just the way it is.

Joey Manu seems like a very decent bloke and I was sorry for his injury.
.
Did anyone grieve for Sam Burgess after tha 2014 GF head smashing he took and KEPT PLAYING?? No conversely many were openly saying "oh the grub, he had it coming to him!". And did anyone grieve for Kyle Turner after Gallen effectively ended his career in an EXHIBITION game in February?? Turner spent 7-8 months receiving neck surgery implants after Gallen hit him high in a nothing contest. Even the Judiciary agreed it was a dangerous tackloe yet the sanction wasa zero. Yet Turner's career was undoubtedly cut too short because of that high Gallen tackle. Who cares, but let's all cry for Manu!!

Wouldn’t be surprised if round 1 they look for an experienced option like Milne or Chee Kam. (Depending on how they look in the trial). When Mitchell is back Round 2 we have further options. Can’t go past how latrell dominated against the best at centre is SOO. Whoever we play in the centres they will perform better when Latrell is around. No need to panic yet.

Yes but waht is THE correct assessment? Demetriou appears favourable yet one's eyes say something completely different.
Yeah, but we didn't end up with Milford so I guess the coaching staff could see a use for Hawkins in case of injury.
Joe Karapani looks tremendous. Big strong athletic. A powerhouse who will only get better with more A Grade training and playing. Surely he is a far better option than Paulo who is not a centre!!
I think Karapani will get another run in the shield especially if Paulo doesn't shape up.

I think Shaq will get a lot more minutes in the NSW Cup trial. He needs that more at the moment than 5 minutes with the big boys.
