What is value of current deal for NSW/qld cup??

How is that relevant. The point was that whenever anything to do with broadcasting rights comes up in discussion, you reference Channel Nine like they are the significant force in all of this. They are increasingly irrelevant because a) they only show three games per week b) their ratings continue to drop (rightly so btw) and people are increasingly shifting to other platforms to consume the game c) most of the broadcasting money is coming from players other than Channel Nine

Probably not but again Channel Nine is still irrelevant in a discussion about a second grade competition and who would be showing it or would be paying for it.

What proof do you have of that?! There's every chance screen secondary comp as part of package with no additional money

A lot of effort & expense to create 2nd comp just to get small return. Time better spent expanding NRL but this thing topic was just fantasy anyway..

Who is more likely to play a second grade competition? Channel Nine or PayTV? A FTA broadcaster who have showed no inclination to show any more than three games per week of a dedicated league channel that needs the content.

Also, where is the predominant amount of money coming from with regards to the broadcasting deal?

You seem to think that Channel Nine hold the whip hand in these things. They are important in the sense that they capture those supporters who can’t afford PayTV or streaming services; however anybody who has a significant interest in the game (who is also not a Broncos supporter btw) and has the disposable income, are shifting to other platforms

I actually agree with you. It would be better to just expand QLD Cup and NSW Cup if you want to have teams from new areas and run it like the minor leagues in the US

It's worth next to nothing.
how much is it worth? But yeh it probably is, but that doesn't exclude the value of a genuine 2nd division comp. that has its own interest. Very few care about two reserve grade comps. as they are just that, reserve grade for NRL

That would be fine as long as it wasn't a reserve grade for NRL. At the moment any club that isnt acting as reserve grade is massively behind the 8 ball in attracting and retaining decent second tier players. Even at SG Ball we've seen some of our best WA kids go to NRL club's SG ball sides rather than play for WA as the direct pathway is so much stronger and the opportunity to progress to NRL greater.
Other issue is size and make up, the idea is not to compete worth NRL clubs but offer an opportunity for cities that wont ever get an NRL club, or not for a very long time, so the game at least has a professional presence, career pathway and fans have a local club to follow.

NSW cup was getting 50k viewers on main channel. Ur 2nd division not doing more than that

And what about the cities that will never get an NRL club? Its taken 23 years to expand the NRL by 2 clubs.

Which cities are those?! Only Adelaide & Perth don't have NRL teams. Instead of creating comp which will never make money just add those sides under NRL banner & hopefully increase TV & sponsorship money.

Cairns, Gosford, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton, Geelong, Suva, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast. Port Moresby all possible for a genuine second division comp. Throw in NS, Newtown, Campbelltown for some Sydney interest. Basically population centres that dont have an NRL club.

Zero point zero
Link to this stunning fact you have unearthed? Even if its true, and it might be, still irrelevant to what a streaming service may pay for NRL2, especially as it will generate new viewers and subscribers from across Australia.

Haha. Throw out Geelong - they can follow storm. All those places have teams in level below nrl. U reinventing wheel but at immense cost for little return

What new viewers?! Melbourne ppl barely get to see storm. U thinking 2nd division is going to get exposure?!

So ,its your belief, that a separate Rugby League competition could be successful, as long as it has no links to the NRL??

I think it could be MORE successful than the current reserve grade comps, yes. It would have a legitimacy as a competition in its own right, not just exist as a feeder for NRL clubs. At the moment there is little point, or financial ability for many cities to join the current set up as they cant compete with pokie dens and direct NRL players/pathways some clubs have. You'd just be there making up the numbers and going bust.

Why would it be more successful?! It would be a thousand times more expensive to run
