What do the Gold Coast bring?

They're like us (the Warriors) - they need to be very prudent about the signings they make, the coaches they hire and their management structure. Us and the Titans seem to attract overhyped, overpaid underachievers for different reasons. We seem to be a retirement village; the Titans are more like a youth hostel - go there and have a great time on the piss without too much worry of work.

The Titans were successful when they had strong leaders like Scott Prince, Luke Bailey, Matt Rogers, Preston etc. Notably absent now. Same with us and Steve Price, Ruben Wiki, Micheal Luck etc around the same time.

Steve Price and Ruben Wiki would be ideal types for the Titans right now. They need some tough, hard men. They've got plenty of talent in their side but no mongrel. Opposite to the red V really, they are all mongrel, no talent.

It's mongrel, but it's accountability at training and in games I reckon. Predominantly the former. Price, Wiki and Luck etc wouldn't let you half ass training. If you were late, you'd get a massive serve. If you kept being late or being half-assed, you were gone. Those guys weren't prepared to tolerate lack of effort on their watch. Their careers and standards were too important, and the respect they got from the younger guys was earned.

What do they bring? Plenty of positives.
1. A presence in Australia's 6th biggest population centre in a traditional league area.
2. Decent crowds considering their mediocrity since inception.
3. Huge capacity to get better and gain more support both from fans and sponsors.

What do they do poorly which holds them back?
1. Poor branding. What the hell is a titan? Imagine naming your team because a pretty shit film was popular when you were coming into the comp. The only team in the comp with a colour on their name and they barely use it in their jersey or other marketing.
2. Horrific decisions re coaches and recruitment.

To be fair though branding is not that important. Why are Newcastle called the Knights? Why is my club called the Raiders? Cowboys? Broncos? The list goes on. Those clubs gained support in spite of their logos or branding not making much sense.

Agree with the colours though. They shouldn’t be blue like every other club.

Nevertheless though it is about success. They have been on the bottom of the ladder for most of their existence. Give them financial stability and some success coupled with the massive growth in that area and the support for the club will nominally increase

I'm not sure branding/strip colours are holding the Titans back. In fact I like their colours, only non-Warriors NRL item I've ever bought (shorts). And never thought there was ever any issue with a Titan - seems like a strong mascot to me.

Not only does the Gold Coast not offer anything to the NRL, the shithole offers nothing the Australia as a whole.

We should look at sawing it off and towing it over and formally making it NZ's 3 Island

As PW said above, funnily enough GC was good when it had good players, hardened veterans and a decent coach...

So they've got all those advantages and operate as the only team in the market, and have done absolutely nothing with it. That's the point I'm making.

The Dogs have had a lean few years, but have also played in 2 grand finals in the last decade
Well I mean the dogs have a leagues club worth over 100 million and puts in up to five mill pa into them.

the titans would love to have that and yet the dogs have been terrible for a decade

plus the new light rail is going to see the area boom up to the Olympics
the suns are receiving 28 million pa from the afl. The afl spent 30 million to get the management rights to the stadium (suns keep all the rent)

titans have received nothing extra from the nrl in comparison and are still holding their own against the fumblers

They probably should have picked a second Brisbane side instead of Gold Coast but anyways the decision has been made. The population there will go up to a million in the next 20 years so there is at least some potential

Btw Why are you talking about the Central Coast. They would offer less than the Gold Coast and there would be about five or six options before you go to the Central Coast
Weren’t allowed to add a second brisbane side back then

beoncos got daddy to put that condition in the super league peace deal (expired 2015)

With tino. They have that leader. Fifta is off contract 24. So really they need to build next year and really get that defence fixed. If you look at the stats they have the worst outside backs. Fix that and they will be in plenty more games.

Continuing to pay Mal a couple hundred k a year as head of performance and culture when he barely visits once a week and couldn’t really give a shit about the club.

He won the raffle/lottery at Southport’s lc and the payout was 18 k

except he was in Canberra with family so someone else got the prize

They chose Hayne over Neil Henry, says it all about the management at the club.

The first few years they showed so much potential, Searle shitting on the local tradies and business when he couldn't pay them for that white elephant CoE next to CBUS and the price pretty much doubling the price for corporate boxes in one off season doesn't seem to have ever been forgiven by the locals.

Mal never even lived here until earlier this year; he was essentially just being paid to bludge from Canberra. He can f**k off for all I care and he can take Ezra Howe (Head of Recruitment) with him. But hey, knowing how dumb our board is they'll just go and employ some other numpties to replace them with and nothing will change.
