South Sydney Dragons (South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Dragons) would have been a great merger. Red, green and white would be a great colour scheme for a team called the "Dragons". The game could have been based out of SFS and drawn 20k fans on a regular basis if it went well on the field.

Illawarra Sharks (Illawarra Steelers and Cronulla Sutherland Sharks) could have become a purely regional team based out of Wollongong and tapping into Sutherland.

Western Bulldogs wouldn't have worked as Footscray adopted that brand a few years earlier. Any merger between Sydney Wests and Canterbury-Bankstown would need to be called the Western Sydney Bulldogs.

I'd have sent Manly to Adelaide and merged them with the Rams. Adelaide Sea Eagles.

North Sydney deserved to be canned as they didn't have a proper stadium in northern Sydney and refused to play out of the SFS, so merge them with the Perth Reds to become the Perth Bears. Let the Sydney Roosters take over everything from the CBD to Gosford.

Parramatta Eels and Penrith Panthers stay as stand-alone brands. Balmain is thrown out and their licence given to Easts Tigers.

Adelaide Sea Eagles
Auckland Warriors
Brisbane Broncos
Brisbane Tigers
Canberra Raiders
Gold Coast Chargers
Illawarra Sharks
Melbourne Storm
Newcastle Knights
North Queensland Cowboys
Parramatta Eels
Penrith Panthers
Perth Bears
South Sydney Dragons
Sydney Roosters
Western Sydney Bulldogs

South Sydney have created such a great global brand that's followed far and wide . A real powerhouse built on tradition and rivalries. ... yet a tiny geographical area..

That tells you that what makes a strong brand isn't some watered
down , relocated thing..

If anything the tigers should be the Balmain Tigers playing out of Leichardt and focusing on upgrading the stadium while keeping the hill.
A proud long tradition. They're special that way. They'll have a following all over the world.

PV is onto it. That's why the stadium deal got renegotiate to redeveloped suburban grounds .

Our sport has a long proud history . That's what people want to be a part of.

It’s funny an enlglish fan can see the obvious which eludes so many Australians

the peace deal did more damage to the nrl than the actual war did

but the wounds are largely healed now and the game back in growth mode

manly and Cronulla offer the least out of the Sydney clubs

the way forward is for St George to become the illlawarra side largely full time and tigers based in Campbelltown

still leaves central coast and north shore as lacking a team

Don’t think manly will be go anywhere with their stadium redevelopment and the new COE.

Cronulla must be asset rich because their ground is a joke and their crowds are relatively small.

Yes and no, the comp was at 20 teams without Adelaide and melbourne, seemed financially unsustainable, ARL knew it needed rid of some sydney clubs to keep growing etc even back in 1995.
the war probably just sped up some inevitable rationalisation outcomes, it was just a shame we lost perth, brisbane2 and Adelaide in the process. If wed managed to keep those clubs and get the comp down to 16 the game could now be something else.

It’s more so the funding from the arlc

it’s gone way up vs the cap so every club makes. A profit

for next year the cap is over 12 milllion and clubs will receive 5 million ver this

Cronulla own their ground, some retail at the ground which they rent (gym), have a refurbished leagues club and own a golf club in Kareela
